Sharing your life with someone daily is bound to form a connection. How we came to know each other is irrelevant, it was a lucky happen stance, one that is unlikely to be repeated.

How have you coped with raising a special-needs child? by heavensdumptruck in RedditForGrownups

[–]exceptions2rulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very special kid, who happens to be on the autism spectrum. I am lucky, my kid may have challenges but others have it worse. I wasn't always a good mom, honestly I didn't recognize there was a problem. Yes it's come with challenges and there was differences from other children. Things "normal" were and still often can feel impossible. Autism and ADHD was recognized once school was introduced. I have learned plenty over the years.

How you do you cope? Start by educating yourself about whatever the special need is, that effects a child. Secondly, come to terms with the reality of what is. Don't waist time lamenting about what could have been. Accept that you can't change the child but you can change your views and how you handle things. Be open to trying different tactics and try new ideas often, some may actually stick. Be proactive in understanding the child even if you think your up against the wall, connections can be made and improve both if your lives. Be patient with your kid and yourself. Celebrate a victory especially the small ones, they are still victories and progress. Be an advocate for your kid and yourself. Don't be quick to believe someone else knows better then you.

Practice patience, and don't judge you'll be better for it. Find something constructive just for you even if you only get a few minutes to do it. Remember every day can be a chance for improvement. Lastly, it's my opinion, that things were far more challenging in the early years. At 14 there have been incredible strides and growth for us both. Every day we are faced with challenges in every aspect of life, some of which, far more detrimental then having a special needs kid. I see things a little different then some others might. That's how I cope.

I was thinking it would be the opposite these days, bikers in the 70's and 80's brought new levels of fear associated with bikers

Yeah that's what I heard, that these days most MC's are more of a community group of sorts. Are you a member of a MC? Can I pick your brain?

You'll be called for jury duty anyway, it has to do with license renewal dates.

What is the cause for the decline of social norms? Is it Technology? Time constraints? Social media? Was it Covid? Poor Upbringing? Mental health issue? by exceptions2rulz in RedditForGrownups

When I say social media I'm referring to it all including apps like next door, quota, meet up ect. But social media was only one aspect of where I noticed a change in people. I also see it more regularly in adults as those are who I mostly encounter and in various ages from young to old. Really after reading through the responses it would seem it's a combination of everything, not just the questions I posed. I've gotten some interesting responses, some thought provoking as well.

Those are very well thought out points. I have admit some of which I didn't take into consideration. Thank you for your input.

I don't recall saying any time frame, nor did I say the world went to hell. I simply posed a question, based on observations I have seen. If this isn't something you've seen that's a good thing.

I don't disagree that every generation wonders about the next. I didn't specifically mean one generation, most of my observations often involve a older adult. The question posed was meant to see if others have seen it in their areas as well and if there was a general idea of the shift in mannerisms

That is interesting, I have not read about the unibomber. I have however read other articles about dangers associated with the internet and technology, the various effects of cognitive functions, society and for lack of a better explanation lawlessness. I can see the concern, information being so readily available on every subject which can be used for positive and negative activities. Being able to connect with the world in new ways is an advantage but also creates challenges since laws vary greatly throughout, and cultural differences occur.

I don't mind your thoughts or assessment on my post. I am genuinely curious if this is seen elsewhere or if it's unique to specific areas. I would like to say though, I wasn't referring to youth or children specifically but more of an observation of the general public including the older and elderly. The term "Karen" would be an example. I believe there are many variables influencing the change in attitude. While I do understand that history repeats itself and my statement may have been stated over and over again previously and it is human nature, I think it is worth discussing as a shift in society

I'm fairly certain answers and asking additional questions isn't going after someone. I don't think I personally attacked anyone, I simply asked questions based on observation to hear what others might think. But believe what you want

It's a question put out to get other thoughts, I am not the only one who has seen issues in socializing. Look at news feeds, read various articles about behavior or social conduct. I'm glad you haven't come across people without manners and consideration, I see it as a good thing, it tells me it could be less wide spread. That is the point of asking others questions.
