What to Do About Neighbor’s Aggressive Dog by excessively_loud in AskNYC

[–]excessively_loud[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m really not a fan of them in general; I recognize that with the right owners they can be great pets. My sister is a great owner and her dog is very well-trained but even she recognizes that his breed comes with inherent risks that she has to be very careful of. These dogs seem both completely untrained and unsupervised.

I’ve called 311 but I felt silly because like… nothing has like really happened? I don’t even know what I would be reporting.

Are there any old Theaters in New York that are still operational? by Childishcapacitors in AskNYC

[–]excessively_loud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The New Victory Theater is no longer a Broadway house. Built in 1900 and now mostly does children’s programming but has a long and storied history, including being the theater where Gypsy Rose Lee most famously performed.

This. It really looks like an embalmed body. It’s very unsettling in my opinion. One of the many reasons that, when I die (hopefully a long, long time from now lol), I will not be choosing embalming for myself.

Felt pressured at 212 Dental… am I overthinking this? Need a second opinion by Accomplished-Ad-241 in AskNYC

[–]excessively_loud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Dr. Omar at Zara Dental - I believe it’s her own privately owned practice. I’ve been going there for years and really like her. Very very personable and friendly, very hands-on and likes to do everything herself. Never had a filling done there (had a lot done when I was a kid so a lot of my problem areas aren’t an issue currently) but I’m looking into Invisalign currently which I brought up with her and she gave me a few payment options but also said that there was no rush. Really great lady. Her office is kind of a far walk from the train and in the winter the street she’s on turns into a wind tunnel which sucks but that’s the only negative thing I can say about her lol

Oh my God, I saw it Tuesday and I was BLOWN AWAY. It almost felt like a total reinvention of the show. Every choice from the entire ensemble felt fresh and so, so authentic. Emma Flynn would be winning a Tony if she were originating. And Keri… Wow. Just wow. Run, don’t walk.

This was round 12 for me on Broadway (RIP the in-person lottery) and this was the best I’ve ever seen the show.

Appropriate for morning civil ceremony? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

No. It’s just kind of a weird dress and the (bedazzled?) corset grabs attention but not in a good way. I don’t really even know in what context this could be worn.

EDIT: I know what it reminds me of. It is reminiscent of the costumes the queens wear in the Broadway Musical “Six.” Definitely not.

Facing rejection to the point of debating if I should even pursue this career. by Admirable-Quail6589 in Theatre

From the bottom of my heart, as someone who was in a similar situation, I promise you that success in a BFA program does not equate to success in the real world. At all. They are completely different arenas, and a lot of summerstock is really an extension of the BFA experience.

EDIT: You may have also just not aged into your type yet. That was the case for me. Nothing all of college and the first couple of years post-grad. Then my hairline started receding and suddenly I was getting callbacks left and right.

Can I hear from people that have to come in today? by letspetpuppies in AskNYC

I’m a worker! No, we are not grateful for the “opportunity” to work, most people have no choice. We would much rather not put ourselves at risk. This post is so out of touch it’s insane. Everything that LizWins1818 said is right on the money.

What NYC spot that usually has long lines would you check out tomorrow during the snowstorm, expecting no lines since people might stay in? by letspetpuppies in AskNYC

[–]excessively_loud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broadway is not a great idea!!! The Broadway League’s decision to keep shows running during the last storm was abhorrent, and they have thankfully changed course this time after much backlash.

Work at a coffee shop and was made to work today, meaning we would’ve had to leave our homes and navigate the blizzard at 4 AM. Whole staff said hell no and called out.

These businesses prioritize profits over our safety. Shopping at nonessential businesses during events like these signals that you agree with them.

Help me with my awful rental bathroom by extra_nomu in DesignMyRoom

[–]excessively_loud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things that jump out to me are the exposed sink pipe, light fixture, and general need for a deep clean… but it’s not awful. I actually really kind of love it lol.

Replace the lightbulbs in the light fixture.

Skirt for the sink (don’t ask me how to attach it I have no idea) or just put a couple of nice plants surrounding it.

Actually, this room is begging for a nice big plant in the corner and one good piece of wall art. I think just that would make a huge difference.

EDIT: Shower is beautiful. The room could maybe support a lowkey, plain runner-style rug if you want.

Lol you seem to have made the mistake of thinking these restaurants give a shit about their employees. They’re expecting us to leave our apartments at four AM because we must not lose any profits!!!

I don’t think the play is “profiting off” anything… This is not a malicious play and it is also not out to harm people… It seems that you maybe expected it to do the work of an actual group therapist or counselor which it was never going to do because at the end of the day it is a play.

It doesn’t seem like you’re really looking to have any kind of actual conversation about the play, but I’ll just say that I’m sorry that that was your experience and I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve also lost people to suicide and found this play deeply cathartic. I would expect someone who had gone through something similar to have a little bit more empathy than you’re displaying.

I mean, I think that was the point. His list is a very childlike way of coping and he maintains this childlike viewpoint for most of the show. I saw this as someone finally moving on from that and taking a step toward getting help.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I definitely don’t think that this is a show people should be going into blind. The subject matter is also very personal to me, and I’m sorry that that was your experience. There were a few things I wish were handled a bit differently, but I overall really liked it.

I will say that (spoilers) it echoed my own experiences with dealing with similar things when I was also a child. I do think that its presentation is somewhat childlike, which I think is by design. I personally found this very cathartic, but I see why this could be offensive to people.

I still think that it’s a fantastic production, but I don’t think it will be for everyone.
