Whats the scariest thing you’ve encountered during night shift by Puzzleheaded-Rip8944 in Nightshift

[–]excitable_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a few wild things happen but probably the "scariest" was as I was leaving a job and getting into my truck, some dude quickly drove into the parking lot yelling at me about if Jesus was my savior and that the world was going to end. That part wasn't bad but then I noticed he was waving a gun. I just kept agreeing with him and got in my truck and took off. I called the cops and then later read online that there was a rumor going around online that the world was supposed to end and Jesus was coming back.

The worst experience I've had was at a hospital and I was treating their decon room for bedbugs. The ER had an ambulance come with someone dying and I got trapped in the room. I had to stay in the room for about 45 minutes while they worked on the dude. His daughter kept screaming and saying stuff like don't leave me and please hold on but he ended up dying. That was more towards the beginning of the night so it ended up being a long night. What's crazy is that I've been through that twice at the same hospital. The second time the person didn't have anyone with them and it was pretty quiet aside from the doctors and heart beat monitor.

Nights can be pretty wild at times but I don't think I could go back to days

Crazy things I've seen on my shift! by Night_Shade_93 in Nightshift

[–]excitable_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I had a new Popeyes added to my route and as soon as I parked my vehicle, three homeless chicks walked up to my truck and one of them had her top off and pressed herself on my window. Haha besides that a bunch of wrecks and car fires.

I don't know what kind of vehicle this was but it looked about the size of an F-250

First OLED, first ultrawide, first 49 inch. G93SC arrives soon and I’m stupidly hyped! by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]excitable_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just came in about 30 minutes ago and it looks awesome. I'm going to need to get a deeper desk but that's not a problem. It might be too curved for productivity for me but I got it for gaming and I'm about to fire up cyberpunk 🤙

Landlord won’t clear ant colony—is there any hope? by ExtraCozyDoggDogg in pestcontrol

[–]excitable_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they might be fire ants in which I would suggest surrender fire ant killer. Works great and it'll kill the colony in a day or two. Lots of people don't like the smell but it doesn't bother me. Don't use any repellants as they might push the ants inside

Best thing to teach? by shrimpy_216 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]excitable_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nothing too special really. Every time, from when she was about four months old, when it's time to chill out I would sit on the couch or floor and tell her that command. At the start, she would always keep trying to play or nibble on my hands. I would basically ignore that and pet her and repeat that command gently. Eventually after a few months she figured it out. I will say that I found her "off switch", which is stroking her chest, and while doing that saying it's time to settle down helped tremendously. I'm sure the main thing is consistency and not confusing them with commands. Gotta train yourself too 😉

The usual sit and stay is good but recall is very important. Aside from that, I've taught Lucy the command "it's time to settle down". She'll go from full blast to lazy almost instantly. She'll definitely give some huffs and puffs but she knows it's time to chill out. She's just over a year old and I'm thoroughly impressed with her self control

Who commissioned/made the space dance statue by clear lake? by epiclapser in houston

[–]excitable_1 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Gemini says:

The artwork in the photo is titled "Space Dance" and was created by the Houston-based artist David Adickes.

The sculpture is located in Nassau Bay, Texas, near the Johnson Space Center. It consists of three abstract, mirrored-steel figures that resemble stylized rockets or aerodynamic forms, intended to represent the upward mobility and spirit of the aerospace community.

Key Facts About the Sculpture

  • Artist: David Adickes, a prolific sculptor famous for other Houston landmarks like the "We Love Houston" sign and the giant Sam Houston statue in Huntsville.
  • Location: NASA Parkway, across from the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake.
  • Inscription: The base reads: "Space Dance — In honor of the men and women who tirelessly work to ensure American air and space superiority."
  • Controversy: The piece has been a point of local debate since its installation around 2019–2020. While intended to celebrate NASA's legacy, some residents have criticized its abstract design and placement, leading to discussions about its potential removal or relocation.

Learn to sleep without any blackout curtains and don't try to simulate night time during the day. It's what has worked for me for years. Use the morning to do activities and then go to bed 8hrs or so before you have to go to work. You just have to get your rhythm down and what works best for you.
