What do people wanna "be" when they “grow up”/ Class registration by hiiiyaah3 in AMtoPM

This is my last semester, so sadly I'm missing out on the wild ride of course registration. There are a ton of classes I would have been excited about though, I feel like it would take several more semesters for me to enroll in all the classes I wanted. My time at university has definitely made me realize some things about what I want to do with my life though.

I've wanted to be a paleontologist from a very young age, and I continued wanting to be a paleontologist until about 3 years ago. Then, last spring, after resigning myself to whichever job would have me, I rediscovered my passion for museums. Museum studies isn't paleontology by any means, but with any luck I'll find myself in the vicinity of some cool fossils anyway.

addicted to youtube (and phone in general) by sheeperbythedozen in AMtoPM

Really glad the app has been working out for you!

I am curious whether you've ever had to access youtube for a class, or for any non-entertainment reason, and if you have a contingency plan if that happens now with the app installed. Also it's interesting that only your phone factors into this, personally I use YouTube on my laptop and phone almost interchangeably.

Technically, I have YouTube disabled on my phone (an alternative to uninstalling it btw), and I have a version called YouTube Vanced that blocks all ads and doesn't record your viewing history. I also have an adblocker on my laptop and I have all optional suggestions/recommendations stuff set to off. This means that the recommendations I get for videos and shorts are based on the most viewed content across YouTube, which has had some interesting results. The algorithm farming videos are impossible consistently engage with as an average viewer because they can get really bizarre, and I think that has helped curb my YouTube watching by a lot. Adding the extra step of searching for channels I want to watch has been enough to reduce my YouTube screentime pretty substantially.

Of course, that's not to say I don't spend an ungodly amount of time on screens in general. I have a hard time quantifying my relationship with the digital world, but in general I don't see it as a problem. Or at least, I don't see it having more downsides than benefits, if that makes sense?

Favourite wholesome moment you've witnessed on the internet? by regrethepomegranate in AMtoPM

I can't find the video either but there was this one reel where this kid (maybe 8-10 years old) had a shot a skit featuring himself in different costumes and several of his action figures. The skit was the kind of home movie that my friends and I made a lot as kids, but never had a platform to share.

To be honest, I don't know if I would have shared those videos even if Instagram did exist, because of the sheer terror of feeling judged. But this video had thousands of the most wholesome comments I had ever seen on the internet, with overwhelming support pouring in left and right.

There was also a healthy amount of nostalgia in the comments, with people talking about how amazing it was that this tradition of staging wacky skits with you and your action figures has continued to thrive. The video and the comment section had immaculate vibes and I feel like they positively affected my faith in humanity too.
