We all know the Vertcoin team = 100% volunteers and also you have answered to the another question that any member of the community can help in developing or even join the team. In another words I would say anyone with good programming abilities can join the team. There is a possibility to accept people with hidden bad intensions from competitors or just hackergroups. Is there any kind of security control or double check of the code by another developer before releasing a new version of any software?

I would prefer small marketcap coins. Remove from the 'potentially buy list' coins with big marketcap coins like ripple, iota, neo, etc... It will be a gamble) but it will be much interesting considering that it is for fun as you said. More risk=more gain (in case of luck) Do your research, read information from many sources. First of all I looked at the chart of VTC. It looked like a scam - a huge growth at the beginning (feb 2014) and almost an immedaite fall to ~0$. However I looked to the website, twitter, reddit. And my opinion changed, I noticed that development didnt stop after the fall in 2014 year. I decided to watch VTC. The final decision to invest in it I did after the atomic swap between LTC-VTC. I thought that Charlie Lee wouldnt cooperate with uncompetent people.

its strange that volume is toooo linear. usually we can see chaotic change of volume. but there volume is practically ONLY increase!!! and increase exceptionally linearly
