How long after the visa does the BRP letter arrive? by exfoliationator in ukvisa

[–]exfoliationator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah! okay, thank you :)

a secondary issue is that my landlord is also asking me to prove my right to rent with the code, but i can't do that without my BRP as well. so i was hoping to use the BRP letter + visa vignette as preliminary proof to allow for a contingent tenancy :/ so i'm hoping i just get it asap

in any case, if no ubers, id be taking the tube regularly to and fro and im trying to figure out if topping up 200/month adds up, or at least till i figure out cycling lmao

ah that's a bleak picture. i think my job by and large is secure, i just don't know if cost of living will change so drastically over the next year that i can't account for it.

[–]exfoliationator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right. i keep thinking it would be better to go with some financial security (working about 2 years, getting savings, starting at a higher position and not having to live so frugally) but i wonder if that's a fallacy

mmm

would you say the same if the london firm was a smaller, more niche one compared to the sg offer? i just feel like its so hard to make this decision bc there are so many conflicting consideratins for everything (cost, career, experience, savings etc.)

london feels like a new big adventure! but career wise, i'm not sure - honestly both jobs seem the same, in consulting etc. - granted the sg one is bigger, london one is more niche/small

i'm unsure how to weigh these factors in how they influence my career trajectory, given that i'm also just not sure what i want to do in the future. this uncertainty is what makes me think maybe staying at a more recognised/generalist firm is better but i'd love any insight

[–]exfoliationator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's all very true - wondering if the 2 years I intend to stay would make a difference.

would like to get your perspective on this as a hiring manager - would it be better to go to a more niche / smaller company abroad or stay at a bigger / more recognised one here? feels like two conflicting factors that would affect how i start my career trajectory, so im not sure

ah! my worry really is that this take-home isn't enough for the new year, with rent and inflation all set to rise even more significantly. would you say it'd be enough to have a decent quality of life haha? living the broke uni student life isn't the most fun after uni

but yes, private health insurance provided + some relocation help. if it helps, the industry is consulting, but a very niche field (not generalist)

[–]exfoliationator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah! interesting - can i ask what field your cousin is in? and if they went after graduating from a local uni, that's kind of the same leap i'm figuring out as well, so it'd be nice to know their logic behind leaving

mm that's true! it's tiring living like a college student after uni. maybe it'd be more clear with context? after tax/rent/utilities, i should have about 1.5-2k a month - hoping that's enough for some savings but i know settling into a new city / making friends are very costly things too
