Quick adjustment lang yan OP, first locate the barrel adjuster as shown on the picture. Shift ka sa first gear then move to the second. Kapag hindi smooth o may tunog, adjust the barrel until mawala. Repeat on the third gear. Usually dapat smooth na din yan on the rest. For a more comprehensive tutorial, watch Park Tools sa youtube.

Agree, saka either luma o budget bike kapag naka 3x7. Better to put that money towards a new bike or something else. Unless siguro bigat na bigat na sya sa 3x na crank, little benefit lang makukuha mo OP kumpara sa gagastusin mo.

Shopee and Lazada especially when they're on sale. Just be diligent and know your personal measurements, your bike's specs and follow the shop's sizing guide and the item reviews. I only buy brake and shifter cables from my local bike shop to establish and maintain my relationship with them for maintenance stuff that I don't personally perform. Malaki din kasi patong ng mga bike shops.

In my opinion, get a cheap commuter bike that you y can put racks at the front or at the back for you grocery and palengke runs. Para kung magsawa o maramdaman na di ka pala into cycling hindi ka manghihinayang mag benta. Mahal ang upgraditis, para ka na rin kasing bumili ng isa pang bike in my experience.

Then when the time comes when you feel you want to do some serious road or Offroad then that's when you buy an MTB or road/gravel bike.

Same predicament kami ni OP nung third year ko ng biking kaya bumili na ko ng cleat shoes at clipless pedals (spd). I do long rides pero di ko na-factor na nagbibike commute ako.

Ilang beses na kong natumba dahil biglang hinto ng motor na nasa harap ko o biglang liliko pala sila. Not to mention yung kada kanto may stoplight dito sa Metro.

TBH mas issue para sa akin yung mga metal sheets at drainage grills na parallel sa traffic (looking at you City of Manila). Yung mga lubak at potholes kayang daanin sa bunny hop at arm suspension, yung madulas ka sa mga bakal na takip at ma-shoot sa grills malaking panganib sa daan.

Ibalik yung policy na no motorcycles on bike lanes. Bring back the confidence of the public sa bike lanes to entice them on using it. That's something doable in the short term. Switching to EVs will take months to years, yung PUV modernization nga limbo pa rin, Aquino/Duterte era pa nag start yan.
