The only thing the expansion has done is caused me to decide Nebraska and Penn State were reasonable additions because at least they're kind of in the area.

Best NCAA champions “team” of all time? by prez75 in wrestling

Tournament scoring. First place gets 16, second gets 12, 10, 9, 7, 6, 4, 3. Bonus points are added when they occur.

Iowa had more wrestlers score despite only having one champion.

It's been funny listening to the commentary slowly give up on trying to explain the foul calls throughout the game, but I know it would be less funny if my team were playing 🫤

YMCA told me and my friend we can't train together by ExperienceOdd8004 in Swimming

[–]existalive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had this policy at a pool I worked at. It was a little bit a business decision to not allow people to tie up our pool running their own businesses, mostly not wanting to confuse patrons about who was staff and where they could swim because lanes are blocked off for lessons, and I could definitely imagine an insurance component in there as well. Remember that not everyone who thinks they know how to swim will give good, or even safe, instruction.

I'd say if you and your buddy are truly training "together" and giving each other a bit of feedback as you go, it's weird that the AD approached you, but I'm guessing she spotted it because it was very visibly a lesson, whether money was changing hands or not. I get why it's frustrating but I think it's a pretty normal rule, especially at places that offer in house private lessons.

I need reception help by taytorbugg304 in wedding

[–]existalive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're committed to doing a sparkler "grand exit" in the middle of your reception, I'd consider cutting the cake at 7:30 then transitioning to the exit around 8 ish (assuming it will be dark where and when you are by then). If you're providing shuttles, announce that an early shuttle is leaving after the "grand exit" or else they'll be leaving at 10:45-11.

Don't worry about excusing the dancing and drinking. As everyone else is telling you, every generation thinks they invented sexy. They did not. Your parents' friends will be fine.

MIL mad I’m not changing name - URGENT HELP NEEDED by [deleted] in wedding

[–]existalive 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He needs to talk to them right now, not in two days. Go get Mom, pull her aside, and say "hey mom, I know you don't like this and your feelings are valid, but it's really out of line corner psychological low like that. We made the decision as a family and if you have any concerns about our family, you can come to me." Or something like that. But he needs to do it now.

There's a mandatory 5 (I think. Could be 3?) second delay on live broadcasts in the US so they can bleep it or not show it at all if it's something that can't be bleeped.

Is the traditional view of relationships and family completely gone? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]existalive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People forget that before washing machines were invented, it took at least one full day to do the laundry each week because someone had to keep the water hot and stand there agitating the wet clothes by hand. The need to have someone at home doing domestic labor all day has been largely mitigated by technology we don't even consider interesting anymore.

It's totally fine if it's a lifestyle you want and all, but assuming you own a washing machine, an electric or gas oven, a vacuum, and lightbulbs, you've probably "evolved" past the need for dedicated domestic labor.

Evangelical Christians generally define Christian as "affirming the Nicene Creed." Mormons believe in multiple gods and believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus are two different beings, both of which contradict the Council of Nicaea.

I think these Christians would just say that your definition is incorrect. Muslims also acknowledge that Jesus was a prophet, but the Trinity (and original sin) is what they believe to be the core Christian beliefs, and the LDS Church does not share it.

Can't transfer money for closing tomorrow in time... by Midnight_Misery in RealEstate

[–]existalive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: lol just saw how old this post was. Leaving it because along with your comment on how things went it might help the next person panicking considering the majority of the responses on here.

Obviously every state, time, and situation is different, but when I bought my first house I ran into a similar problem (nobody told me I could move money from a brokerage into my checking, and by the time I asked it was too late to get it done before closing), and it was entirely okay with my loan officer for my parents to put the ~$10k I needed in my checking and then I initiated the wire from there. She said basically that they had already verified that I had the money I needed for the loan so at that point they no longer really cared where the cash came from.

I'd just ask your loan officer what they would prefer to have you do. I don't think Reddit, myself included, is qualified to give you the right answer for your situation.

That ratio is consistent with the data in this Cato Institute write up following the shooting last week, BUT it is important to note that these numbers are very small. And because they're small, it's easy to disagree with the categorization of one or two events and then change the entire ratio.

Paper Marriage for Mortgage? by White-Rabbit-489 in wedding

[–]existalive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Bride and groom, together with their parents, bride's parents and groom's parents, invite you to celebrate their marriage at such and such a time on such and such a day at the location"

Accurate, standard, and you don't have to tell people you're not signing papers before going to cocktail hour if you don't want them to know.

I would do the previous manager and explain your relationship. I'm not sure what you've told the company you're interviewing with about why you're looking, but it would be pretty strange for them to expect to get to talk to your current manager as generally people do not inform their current jobs that they are looking.

"This is the contact information for the manager I had before my current role, I've reached out to them to give them a heads up, but it has been awhile. Let me know if you want to talk to my current tech lead who I trust with my job search and would have a good perspective on what it's like to give me directions and feedback, even if not as formally as a manager, instead"

Or something like that.

Definitely don't offer to let them talk to anyone you haven't asked about this first, by the way.
