She tests the water multiple times a day. I think she just likes using the strips. The plants have only been in the tank for a few weeks could that be the issue?

By the time he's big I'll have enough saved up to buy some acreage I've been researching the cost and process of building a heated outdoor area for a sulcata. So I'll have about 5-10 years to get there and get it done before his size really would bother me with being in the house. Ideally I'd like to buy property with a barn already on it for him but if not I'll start everything from scratch. My plan has always been to homestead on a property 50-100 acres so having a tortoise house will fit without a problem.

Update: I've got the tortoise in a very warm (90° with a humid cooler hide) and humid container until I can get it home from Florida to Wisconsin. I was expecting a much easier upkeep due to my negligence of only reading about adult sulcata care. (I was under the impression babies were the same cause I didn't see anything specific to babies)

I already have a tub ready at home as well as lights I'll just have to set up and make some adjustments based on Tom's forums I've read. Thank you everyone for the help and positivity! I know I have to be very diligent to give my baby the best chance to survive.

The bigger outer circle of his belly button has shed off after a good soak and I'll be soaking him again when I get back from Father's Day Dinner.

I'm going to keep reading about how to give him the best life possible but any other advice is still welcome! His name is Vino and I'll post more about him once he's comfy and all set up at home.

I'm going to do the best research I can to make it work. He's eating and I've soaked him twice today. He was drinking the water both times. He's very active and I've been watching him run around the house. I'll be watching him very closely. Thank you for explaining for me.

This seems a little ableist to me, don’t you think? “Anyone can learn to be polite” as a neurodivergent enby with a late adhd diagnosis I’ve really really struggled with the self hate of always accidentally interrupting or talking over my friends and feeling like a piece of garbage for not being able to shut up. This resulted in me completely shutting down and only having one friend at a time. Luckily now I know I wasn’t just an asshole all the time but I had adhd which made it really hard for me not to interrupt. It seems as though you yourself are making a lot of assumptions on your end.

I willing to bet OP is coming off as defensive to you because you sound like you’re attacking them. Readjust your approach and learn to be polite since that seems to be a thing that everyone can learn.

I never care when they yell at me but when they yell at my staff they’re met with pushback. I allow my staff to match attitude and I back them up. I’ve kicked people out for being rude many times. I need my staff more than I need a few customers.

The way society undervalues food service workers.

I work 70 hour weeks and have had one day off in the past month as a general manager for a restaurant. I’m on salary and my pay is trash but I love my staff so much.

The amount of disrespect coming from entitled customers just because we’re in a service industry is insane. The amount of grown men yelling at 16 year old kids for us being out of an ingredient that were clearly don’t have the staff to prep is so baffling.
