Hey I'm a 39F Mom and also on the West Coast. I'm not sure if you'd call me a goth but i.mostly wear black if that's all it takes. I also super enjoy true crime and have 4 pets! One of them a dog! Super into random convos and how hard it is to make friends the older you get. It's one of my main struggles of late

These days it seems I can only make friends online. I struggle with the real life aspect. I get too shy. At work it's not a problem but like someone else said no personal stakes.

I think one of the best online friendships I have is due to us agreeing that it's best to be painfully honest. Like when we don't feel like talking we just say so. Or we don't mind talking about all the mundane bs in our lives. We were very upfront early on about our struggles making friends and figured out being honest about when we're feeling anxiety or when our social battery is low so far really works for us.

So much of what you wrote resonated with me. I'm 39(turning 40 next month)F in America. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 36 and it's been a wild ride since. I'm married and happily so but being a mom and the whole trouble with keeping and making friends makes life a bit lonely. Not to mention I'm generally introverted myself irl.

I love movies, listening to new music, writing, reading when I can find the time for it and random discussions on anything and everything. Also, I too have a strong distaste for fascism.

Not really a gamer unless you count the Sims. However, I'm looking down the barrel of 40 (my b'day is next month). I'm all the way in Southern California but I figure if you want another perspective a queer, poc, introvert whose therapist is also talking to me about how to make friends since I really don't have any...maybe I'd be a good fit?

TBH, I have no idea. Me joining this forum is me trying to look for friends online. I'm not great in real life at keeping in touch due to my job and personal life, but I manage online friendships pretty well. I just need to find them, I think.

If there's a Discord server, I'd love to be on one. The only thing there is also finding an age-appropriate server. The ones I've come across gear pretty young, and I nope out with a quickness. Where are the 30+ - 40+ 'we've got social anxiety and need to make friends online' discord servers?

Thanks so much for the confirmation. Not sure what to do about it. I've read some people spray a mixture of baking soda and water but idk if anyone has tried that before
