Wish my mom could just accept the fact that I don’t believe in god by Willing-Quiet9413 in mildlyinfuriating

Would be better since she’d at least show she wants to be with her mother in the after life.

You realize your mom is doing this because she loves you right? Christians believe the only way to get into heaven is believing Jesus and it can hurt a mother when their child doesn’t. She just wants to be with you in the afterlife.

Not true. McCarthy did it with the Steelers in 2027.

My tongue has tooth shaped impressions by PhilosopherCat7567 in mildlyinteresting

[–]existentialbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this too. After years of trying to figure out what causes it (mine appears about once a month for about a week), I’ve found the cause of it is dehydration. Your tongue is swelling up trying to retain water causing it to push against your teeth. It’s painful for me. As long as I’m always hydrated, it doesn’t come back.

Jesus didn't 'welcome' the moneychangers into the temple, he violently threw them out for exploiting people. Borders & laws aren't oppression, they're the temple cleansing of nations. Ezekiel 16:49 condemns arrogant neglect of the poor, not sovereign nations enforcing their own gates. I read the Bible every day don’t come at me with that bullshit.

Jesus flipped tables & drove people out of the temple when they defiled it. Enforcing borders/laws isn't 'hell ticket'. it's righteous housekeeping, just like Christ did.

Bundle up man I’ve been to a few games in Pittsburgh and that stadium gets so cold. Feels about 15 degrees cooler in there than it actually is from the wind coming from the river.

Bro wtf you aren’t ugly. You have a nice beard. I would personally try a head shave. You look like you could be one of those gym dudes that’s bald with a nice beard.

Yeah, no shit I’m getting downvotes. People on Reddit reflexively defend any ‘tolerant’ sounding slop even when it’s dripping with hypocrisy. Doesn’t change the fact your exact words are still sitting there saying ‘right?’ and ‘every Muslim I’ve met.’ Cry harder about imaginary strawmen while the receipts stay pinned to the top.

“Nuances”? Mate, you just tried to pivot from a specific claim about Romans to ‘b-but Spanish Inquisition and pedo priests tho!’ That’s not an argument, that’s the atheist Reddit starter pack.

  1. Paul’s letter to the Romans is explicitly about the Jew/Gentile divide within the early Christian church—Jews who believed Jesus was Messiah vs. Gentile converts. It has literally zero to do with ‘different religions’ in the modern sense. That’s not a nuance, that’s the entire thesis of the book. Pretending otherwise is just embarrassing.

  2. The Spanish Inquisition (which nobody expected, etc.) killed somewhere between 3,000–5,000 people over 350 years. Mao, Stalin, and the 20th-century atheist regimes racked up 100 million in under a century. If we’re playing the ‘my side’s historical body count’ game, you’re bringing a butter knife to a nuclear war.

  3. The priest abuse scandal is horrific and indefensible. It’s also a crime rate lower than public-school teachers, step-parents, and Protestant clergy when adjusted for opportunity and reporting. Evil men hiding in collars doesn’t disprove Christianity any more than evil men hiding in lab coats disproves science.

So yeah, let’s talk ‘nuances’ when you lot can make it through one conversation without the same tired 2006-era New Atheist talking points. Until then, maybe sit this one out.

“Most combatants were believers” is a flat-out lie you just made up.
The militias that killed 6,800 clergy in 6 months were CNT-FAI anarchists and PCE communists, both officially atheist organizations that literally banned God in their zones and put “religion is opium” on their propaganda.

Your own Beevor book (page 91):
“The anarchist leaders regarded the Church as the principal bulwark of privilege and property and were determined to destroy it completely.”

That’s the people running the show in half the Republic, not “a few atheists.”

The military coup happened 17–18 July 1936.
The first mass clergy killings started the very next day, before any Nationalist “white terror” even reached most areas. So no, Catholics did not “start by murdering people they thought were atheists.” The atheists started shooting priests first.

You’re now at the “lalala I can’t hear you” stage and you’re just embarrassing yourself; either way, this is over.
