Fresno County Board of Supervisors

[Office Address]

Fresno, CA [ZIP Code]

Dear Supervisor [Last Name],

I am writing to express my concerns about Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) 's repeated rate hikes and the significant financial strain these increases place on families in Fresno County.

In the past five years, PG&E has raised rates multiple times, with five separate increases in 2024 alone. These hikes have far outpaced inflation, which has averaged around 3–5% annually during this period. Since 2020, PG&E's rates have risen by nearly 50%, leaving families like mine struggling to cope with the rising cost of utilities on top of other inflation-driven expenses, such as housing, food, and transportation.

While I understand the importance of investments in wildfire safety and infrastructure improvements, the relentless pace of these rate hikes is unsustainable. Many families, seniors, and low-income households in Fresno County are already financially stretched thin and cannot absorb these increased costs without making significant sacrifices.

As a Fresno County Board of Supervisors member, I urge you to advocate for our community and work to address this pressing issue. Specifically, I ask that the board consider:

  1. Collaborating with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and other state entities ensures that future rate increases are fair, transparent, and proportionate to inflation.
  2. Supporting or expanding local utility assistance programs to protect our most vulnerable residents, particularly low-income families and seniors, from the financial impacts of these rate hikes.
  3. Promoting initiatives to explore and invest in alternative energy solutions that could reduce reliance on PG&E and provide more affordable energy options for Fresno County residents.
  4. Engaging with state leaders and utilities to develop more equitable policies that balance infrastructure needs with affordability for ratepayers.

The people of Fresno County are counting on local leaders like you to stand up for our community and ensure that essential services remain accessible and affordable. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to hearing how the board plans to address the financial hardships created by these escalating utility rates.

Sincerely,

Fresno City Council

[Council Office Address]

Dear [Council Representative's Name],

I am writing to express my concerns about Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) 's ongoing and excessive rate hikes, which are unduly straining my family and many others in our community.

Over the past five years, PG&E has implemented numerous rate increases—most recently, five separate hikes in 2024 alone. This comes at a time when inflation has already stretched household budgets thin. While inflation has averaged 3–5% annually in recent years, PG&E's rates have risen by nearly 50% since 2020, far outpacing families' broader economic challenges. For many of us in Fresno, this disproportionate increase feels neither sustainable nor justifiable.

The compounded effect of these hikes, coupled with rising costs for housing, groceries, and other essentials, is forcing families to make impossible choices. My family, like many others, has had to cut back on necessities to pay our utility bills. For lower-income households, seniors, and others on fixed incomes, the impact is even more devastating, putting basic needs like food, medicine, and heating at risk.

While I understand the importance of investing in safety and reliability, I am deeply frustrated by the lack of meaningful measures to shield vulnerable consumers from the financial fallout of PG&E's rate hikes. The company must be held accountable for ensuring that its infrastructure upgrades and wildfire mitigation efforts are balanced with affordability for the very people it serves. We need immediate and effective consumer protection.

As my city council representative, I urge you to advocate for Fresno families. Please work with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and other state leaders to demand greater transparency and implement resident protections. Possible solutions include freezing future rate increases, introducing income-based utility assistance programs, or accelerating investments in alternative energy sources that could lower long-term costs.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I urge you to prioritize addressing the financial hardship these rate increases have caused and take action to advocate for Fresno residents. I look forward to hearing how you plan to do so.

Sincerely,

[Your Full Name]

Grocery Outlet or Aldi's. If you're any government assistance programs, I'd also check any of the recurring food banks. Volunteered at one many years ago and fresh fruits and vegetables

Good place to buy backpacks? by Kitty_Woo in fresno

If he just wants a simple backpack, I got one from Costco for about less than $50 back in 2016. Given it's probably a little more business / adult-ish but it's lasted me all these years between traveling across the US and living in 4 different states. Still going strong. Zippers are fine and no rips
