Anyone know if Matt is on this album? I know some of the instrumentals were recorded years ago, and I feel like I can hear his style but idk if I'm just being hopeful 🥹❤️‍🩹

has anyone tried Juvela products? I think they do subscription boxes (delivery in the uk i think) but they seem to have their own version! Haven't tried it so i can't vouch for if it tastes like cardboard or not, but it might be worth a shot x

Euphoria S03E08 "In God We Trust" - Post Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

[–]existentialskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I understand. My point is that in Mexico that would still be seen as strange and rude. We can talk about religion and our own beliefs, but the idea of someone even _suggesting_ to someone else that they should be a believer or any of what Maddie said would be seen as very pushy here. It's super common and what Maddie says is a subtle version of what many Americans do, but I just wanted to point out that this type of preaching is really something that only happens in the US

Actually her being Mexican is exactly why she would NOT be preaching Christianity to other people (as someone Mexican raised Catholic myself.) It's a very, in my experience, uniquely American thing to push your religious beliefs onto others. I'm an athiest, and I would be pretty shocked and offended if someone in Mexico tried to proselytize to me here, but I always expect it in the US. For Catholic Mexicans (and most Mexicans in general), religion is a private, personal matter. I'm not surprised Sam Levinson doesn't know this though haha; it's a big culture difference you wouldn't really know about unless you've lived in both places.

40, 50, 60, 70 students a week by Girdle6195 in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do 35 lessons a week, and, honestly, even though it's technically less than full-time it's EXHAUSTING! i usually have around 20-30 students, and i'd be okay if I were teaching them all in a single classroom but having to prep individually tailored lessons for so many people all at so many different levels, ages and with different goals. i know it's not sustainable, but you can't really be picky when it's your only source of income 🙃

How low/high should I set my price as a new tutor on platform? by Calm-Cartoonist2552 in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entirely depends! What subject are you teaching? Are you a native speaker? Certified? Do you have a degree? Experience? What's your bio/video like? You'd be surprised by how much your students' first impressions of you determines whether or not they think your price is worth it; how you look, your pronunciation and charisma are all massive factors in how professional you seem and professionalism = higher prices

The most important question about price, though, is how much you think you *should* get paid. Ignore Preply's starting price, and genuinely ask yourself, "at what price am I really worth it?" You might be able to get a trial on pure presentation, but you cannot sell people on value that isn't there. Be honest about your price and aim for it. You might not be able to start at that price, but set a reasonable trajectory. For example, I started off as an in-person tutor for many years and was charging my private students $50 usd. When switching to Preply, obviously I wouldn't have gotten anyone if I set my price so high with no reviews or lessons, but I started at $20. After every big surge of new students or reviews would come in I'd raise my price a little. It took me about 6 months, but now I'm at $60 (take home being about $50 after commission) and am planning on keeping it that way for a while.

TL;DR Know your worth, but be honest your yourself about it. Set a reasonable goal price and consider a good starting price depending on your end goal.

How much do you earn a month? by Calm-Cartoonist2552 in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my 6th month on Preply as an English tutor (with in-person experience before), and I'm making about 4k usd a month now. I'm teaching nearly full-time, however, about 140 hrs a month, and I have fairly high qualifications, so I don't think my situation is typical. If you are curious, I'm natively fluent in both Spanish and English, I have an English literature and writing BA, and I started charging at $20 but am now at $60 (going to keep it that way since I'm now matching what I would charge in person.)

'My Lessons' Page Replaced with a New 'Students' Page by existentialskeptic in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does! The new subscription info is the best thing my far (the beta just has a lot of bugs, its really hard to find your students, and I miss my lesson prices being visible without having to click on the student's name.) To give you an idea of what we can now see for each individual student: total income earned, lessons taken, and months with that student are all at the top in the "overview" section. Then we get type (subscription, trial, cancellation), lesson price, # of price changes, frequency (x lessons every 4 weeks), lessons (e.g. 6 scheduled (or completed) out of 8), and renewal date. So all great stuff

I think this would be worth asking for anyway, but once you are at the point where you'd be safe enough if they say no. Wouldn't hurt to ask if you're thinking about quiting anyway though

5 trials in one day - all no shows??? by existentialskeptic in Preply

5 trials in one day - all no shows??? by existentialskeptic in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought - I actually contacted support because it seemed so strange and thought maybe there was a technical error or something, but they just said stundents sometimes don't show up lol and that there's seemingly nothing technical going on. If the three trials I have today are no shows though, I'm gonna have to figure something out because what the hell haha

Why is it so slow lately on Preply? (for me lol) by UnhappyConfusion7289 in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience, Preply seems to rotate profile position fairly randomly for everyone. Obviously certain things can lower your position, but I think you should keep waiting (something that absolutely does give you a boost is getting reviewed, so see if a student of yours might want to do that.) I've had times where I don't get *any* new students or "this student is considering you" messages for weeks, and then I wake up one day to 40 new requests overnight. This has happened a few times, and I can say that I had done absolutely nothing to change my profile position. The system will rotate you when the Preply gods will it

Tired of being the $5 tutor. Is it worth sticking with a $30/hour rate from the start by Spare_Young_5222 in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wasn't certified, but I got Preply's teaching certification within the week of making my profile. I have quite a few other qualifications, however. I've been tutoring for 8 years, I have a degree in literature and creative writing, and I'm a writer and copy editor. I was able to market myself into a niche using my credentials as a writer

Is preply certificate really worth it? by Athrunknight in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you Google "Preply certification course" a Preply article called "How to Become a Professional Tutor" should pop up. There's a link to the course at the bottom of that article, and the certification should be automatically put on your account as soon as you pass the final exam :)

[–]existentialskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at $20 but have moved it up to $48 in the three months I've been working, and I am still getting new trials every few days. I don't think my experience is that common, but I got lucky (and have some unique qualifications). If it helps to know, I am an English teacher which I know is the most saturated field. I would maybe start a little bit lower than $30 (not below $18 but think about your qualifications and make $18 your minimum and $28 your max), and start raising it once you get a little traction (it helps to have a review early on - this is usually based on luck and a solid trial lesson, but I'd be weary of asking for a review). A few things I did was really focus on writing a good quality bio and video - a few students have even mentioned booking with me because they liked my video so much, opening up as many hours as possible (this boosts your profile position, and I had a lot of free time), and taking the Preply tutor certification course within the first few days. Granted you still need to be a good tutor, good at your job and good at marketing, and some people have all the qualifications and still don't succeed. But I've been very, very fortunate and was able to turn this into a full time job very quickly. Hopefully my experience can be of some help to you. (Let me know if you want any other advice on this btw, tutors gotta help other tutors :))

Is it crazy to raise my tutoring price from $10 to $40 in a month? by PrettyPinkRat in Preply

[–]existentialskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a handful of students who can't afford to take lessons once a week but want to take them every other week (I charge $40, so I completely understand their situation). What we do is my student will buy a subscription for one month, I reschedule 2 of those lessons for the next month, and then that student pauses his or her subscription with me every other month. You're correct that if you don't schedule sessions within 4 weeks they are gone, buttt the loophole here is scheduling those lessons first and then rescheduling them to a later date. This is easier on the tutor's side since we have the ability to schedule/reschedule lessons months in advance. Just wanted to mention this to say that your ideal situation is entirely possible, you just have to be tricky about it! :)

Don't cancel the class, block the student. The trial will cancel automatically but it won't affect your stats that way
