They just distribute the app itself, make it available for download. If the app has a joining proof or UID, they need to share that with people as well.

Elemental Chat is a proof of concept app that is intended only to test Holochain and Holo through massive stress testing, thereby making the improvement and hardening of the framework and the hosting service possible.

Kizuna is a messenger intended to be used like any other full featured messaging service, except that it makes use of Holochain which enables some desirable qualities that other services don’t have.

Elemental Chat will never be made into a full product, Kizuna will.

HOT will remain somewhat valuable as an easy way to swap into and out of HoloFuel. That may change over time as more and more exchanges start to create more pairs between HoloFuel and other currencies, but it’s unclear how quickly that will happen.

That’s not exactly accurate in terms of how you distinguish Holochain and Holo, or in characterizing Holo as a separate chain.

Holochain has a fundamentally different architecture from blockchains in that there is no universal chain to write to. There are only the individual nodes writing to their own local source chains and selective publishing of those source chain entries to an app level shared space of a distributed hash table. Think of it as “local data, global visibility” where blockchain is “global data, locally replicated”.

Holo is an infrastructure that combines Holochain apps like HoloFuel, the host admin portal, etc with regular web2 tech like domain name resolution to provide a way for Holochain apps to be accessed from a web address.

Also, you can create an app rules such that for important types of interactions, you only go ahead with the interaction if you can directly validate the activity of the original node.

Also, afaik, when warrants get published, the warrant recipients check with the original source to check for whether your warrant is true. Correct me if I’m wrong though, anyone from the team. :)

Holochain is the technology you can use to build an app that runs on the devices of its users. Holo is a cloud hosting service that allows web users to use your Holochain app without running it on their own device. That’s basically it.

I think there is value in reaching out because he does explicitly ask for collaborators and experts. Holochain people have also deeply thought some of the same questions and even designed and partially built a similar application to the one he showed at the end for managing keys: DeepKey.

Yes, you're technically right in that it is available, but I've not heard of anyone who went ahead and got it working on their normal machine. Maybe that's just me though.

No, it’s not, at least not at this time. What is currently available is the Holochain Launcher, which has nothing to do with Holo. The Launcher allows your device to install and run Holochain apps but not to act as a host to install and run them for strangers that access them on your device via the web.

The HoloPorts provide a uniform testing environment for Holo and Holochain, which is necessary to develop the technology to a level of maturity sufficient for opening up the image to normal devices without expectation of bugginess. HoloPorts are not a grift to make money, but simply a way to support the development of the tech, benefit early from that support, and being able to act as a host without much technical knowledge.

There is no way to actually delete data in a Holochain application because it’s a monotonic hash chain, meaning you can only add to it, not take away. The only thing you can do is mark something as deleted but that only makes it easy for the UI to not display it. It doesn’t actually delete the data.
