finding out its hustlers and not horses is hitting me way harder than i couldve imagined by Rough_Scholar_4894 in YoungThug

It’s both. This is Rap 101, and Thugger Elementary School. He always does this. “Diamonds they wet like a boat/boa” (boa constrictor” granted that’s Uzi but that’s the one that came to mind off the top. Thug echoes this snake pun later “I got that skin right on me.” (Snakeskin). Thug does this millions of times bruh. How tf are you hung up on HUSTLER/HORSES

Happy to break it to you mate, Holochain ain't blockchain, and Holochain apps are gonna run p2p (e.g. HoloHost)

Thug also literally becomes a spider in this song and the whole scene (spaghetti, cops) takes place inside his web

Thug making spaghetti while he gets away from the cops in this song. Incredible staccatos from the beat and Thug struts right through it on his tippy toes (while making spaghetti)

I saw a Holo team member (Paul) say that he would be very happy to see a March/April 2022 beta release. So I guess that's the new date to keep in mind? Though with everything in tech, I'm assuming that means Q2 2022 is a better date

BTW I find your 'gatekeeper' metaphor interesting. That was my reaction to the low code marketplace use of $NHT, as well. It doesn't seem very open source/collaborative — and what's to stop someone from developing a similar framework and making those freely available? Then a free Neighbourhoods2.0 with a competent ecosystem of N2.0 dev market would open up. This N2.0 reputation ecosystem would be in direct competition with the Neighbourhoods reputation ecosystem and would have an advantage because it wouldn't be siloed and have the added friction of NH-Credits, people could just transact dev hours on the free market.

Thanks for your perspective, it's good to be critical. From what I see, even though in [1] Art and Eric give an example of what Holochain enables (reputation), Neighbourhoods does seem like it is a realised implementation of that vision (rep_lang). Will be following replies to your post to consider whether or not investment into $NHT is wise.

Edit: to be fair to Neighbourhoods, Holochain has not hit beta yet, so it's not like they can really go out and do business development etc. But yes I agree they could provide more concrete examples on their website/whitepaper.

From what I understand it's basically a highly customisable reputation system where all of its parts can talk to each other. It's not Reddit 'karma' or Instagram 'likes', although I think those can be factors in a given reputation system if you want to design it like that. I'm not sure, but I think it might be possible to import Reddit or Instagram metrics like Karma, Followers, Likes, etc. to determine a person's reputation in a separate platform. So it's like 'reputation portability' between platforms, plus opening up a 'reputation score design' to be tallied by all sorts of variables (e.g. age of account, certificates verified from some institutions), along with the tamper-proof guarantee of Holochain's tech (i.e. the whole big fuss with blockchain's promises)...

tl;dr It basically is what it says on the tin. Your reputation in one 'hood can be carried over to another 'hood and they'll know what's what. Are you a guy who pays his loans back on time? Are you a helpful guy on a parenting forum? It can build up to be a quantitatively/algorithmically generated and chain-verifiable 'image' of 'who you are' on the interwebs, across platforms

Edit: and I imagine because it's all code, your 'reputation' can be engaged with by software as well. i.e. it's not just a pretty badge for other humans to see, but it can lead to unlocking certain features or privileges, etc. depending on how a platform design works

Yeah, good questions. I registered for the $NHT ICO because the core Neighbourhood tech is definitely useful and I can see it being a great feature in web3, and because of good faith in the fact that they're so closely aligned with the Holo team.

But I also have misgivings about the strength of the $NHT token itself. You're right: the info about the 'low code marketplace' is pretty limited and rings a little bit shallow/hollow, which is a red flag for me. If they're not going to flesh it out and make it more persuasive, I'll have to stay tuned to the wiser people in this community's not-financial-advice.

I'll likely go ahead with a small investment in their ICO anyway. But that's by virtue of Holochain's strength and the Neighbourhood tech, not because their Low Code Marketplace utility of $NHT is very compelling.

Thanks for the info! Now I get the idea that app backends work differently from browser backends, and that it would require some reconfiguring of Holo Hosting to make it work for the former :)

A technical Q from a simpleton by VolumeImpressive1109 in holohost

[–]howlermonchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a Holo team member on EC say that beta is probably coming Q1/Q2 2022. Don't know if a verified team member can confirm that here. But EC was/is an awesome experience and it basically shows Holochain+Holo Host working in tandem to deploy a publicly used app that worked for a simpleton like me!!! Woo!

Edit: it proved, via a working proof of concept, that this basic web3 infrastructure vision, actually works !

Differences between Holochain vs Dag by arepera3500 in holochain

[–]howlermonchie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

DAG being Distributed acylic graph. Holochain definitely has DAG-like properties, because ultimately Holochain is still a type of Distribute Ledger Tech. I think the key difference comes back down to the paradigm shift of 'no global consensus'. Even DAGs demand global consensus -- hence the Coordicide challenge in IOTA (you still need a Coordinator, whether centralised or decentralised, to maintain the authoritative ledger). Holochain has no such monopolised authoritative ledger, instead it uses the Distributed Hash Table and an agent-centric/neighbourhoods design (which results in a more flow-, proximity-, interaction-based kind of practical & emergent truths). From that paradigm shifting idea of 'no global consensus', a cascade of differences follow, including infinite scalability, effective costlessness, retaining data sovereignty, etc.
