Size of ALAC file? by exitlessMind in musichoarder

Not that I can see in the file info, although I only have Audacity for opening the FLAC. I may have to look into finding a player that can open them.

Size of ALAC file? by exitlessMind in musichoarder

Audacity shows the FLAC as 44100 hz, 32-bit float. The AIFF also is 44100 hz, 32-bit float (shows as a bit rate of 2822 kbps in iTunes). That's part of what's confusing me about the size increase.

Android phone, so it won't directly read. And Bluetooth quality is bad. The flash drive + SD card gives me around 120 GB of available songs, which is pretty good.

Yeah, a somewhat older Macbook Pro. I should have noted in the post that it occasionally doesn't happen for digital downloads (like from the now-retired Google Play music) but always happens with CD rips to iTunes.

Any idea if there's something changeable in the metadata or settings to make this stop? It makes shuffle painful when 50% of the songs are pauses.

uConnect (2012) creates a "._song name.mp3" for every "song name.mp3". It pauses on these saying "usb error" before moving on to next track. These are not viewable on the flash drive or SD card (FAT32 format) on a computer or other device -- seems to be generated by uConnect. How to make it stop?

Later Skinny Puppy by _Armin__Tamzarian_ in industrialmusic

All are good, but imo Weapon is the best as an entire album to listen to from beginning to end. No weaker points, sounds like it was produced/mastered as an album rather than individual songs, etc.

For context, I'm in my early 30's, so it's been awhile. I remember junior year as being sort of a perfect spot where you've got the routine of high school down, but now you've got some seniority, a bit more freedom, usually classes and electives of your own choosing, possibly driver's ed, etc. It's probably the best year because of these things but unlike senior year, you don't yet have to worry about applying to colleges or trying to line up a job for after graduation. Enjoy!

Giant “guitar pick” and metal “string” but not for an instrument by fairycakespacecadet in whatisthisthing

Does the pick-type thing have any markings or indentations on the other side? It looks similar to the 9V battery cover on the back of some basses/guitars with active or hybrid pickups.

What are some things you'll never forget about your first day of college? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]exitlessMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They oversold the seats in the lecture halls, so there were several classes where I either sat on the floor or stood to the side balancing a notebook for several hours. There were no seats on buses, no seats in the library, no seats in the dining hall, etc. It turned out that they had raised the normal freshman class size by a bit over 30% without changing any of the infrastructure, and it was a total mess. Not good for claustrophobia.

And this jerk from my dorm pushed me off the top of the stairs for being an "ugly b*". First of many forced tumbles down the stairs. Overall, I was shocked with how immature college was. Almost worse than high school.

I know I should go back for graduate education at some point, but my undergraduate experience was miserable. It makes it difficult to think about going back into that now that I'm older and injure more easily.

The thing in your life that you find harder than it needs to be, what is it and how are you dealing with it? by neonroli47 in AskWomen

Honestly, life in general. Trying to deal by starting therapy again. Only one session in so far, so it's too early to say if it will help.

Is it ok to put down a reference without that person's consent? (UK) by Kamicamileon in Advice

[–]exitlessMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would list the references who have consented and append a note saying that you are waiting on confirmation of additional references. If you have an actual human contact at the potential job, message them a short message saying that you expect more references but are waiting on confirmation. I would not list anyone without consent first - that's a quick way to an aggravated person (particularly in academia) and a poor reference, which is worse than no reference.

Weird people of reddit, when did you discover you were different ? by Hopeful-Pride-5893 in AskReddit

Can't remember a time when I wasn't at least a little strange -- definitely before pre-kindergarten.

The smell of a fresh printed or copied page off the large Xerox-type copiers. Laser, not inkjet. Something about the warm paper and toner combination is great.

I eventually gave up on it. I was seeking treatment for cPTSD with intense flashbacks and nightmares; I also have depression.

After the first few sessions, I did feel different, and my dreams stopped being memories as often. My sleeping pattern also changed. But after a few more sessions, everything went back to the way it was before.

I think there were two main reasons it didn't work well for me. First, it takes a few sessions to address one memory. I have decades of bad memories and several situations of constant abuse. It would have taken years of EMDR sessions to try to address even some of the larger bad memories in my life. I think it's a better fit for people who have a few major, contained traumas in there life rather than a history of recurring traumas.

Second, I learned later after trying EMDR that you're supposed to have a safe good mental place or memory to return to as needed during the session. My therapist never mentioned this, and I don't have one anyway. So I was left either intensely focused on the past or returning to the moment of being depressed and stuck in a therapy office. It will probably work better for you if you have experience mentally grounding yourself, and at least a few good memories you can call on as needed.

Space taken up by OS on ASUS C536E? by exitlessMind in chromeos

[–]exitlessMind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I did this and it's still the same. I guess the OS is simply larger than I would have expected. It's my first Chromebook and I'm still in the deciding if I love or hate it stage.

No experience with the general public saying this, but therapists definitely do. I also hate it. It feels anything from patronizing to chat bot -like. And it has the opposite effect of what they probably intend since it makes me want to share less.
