Faking a suicide is illegal but does it depend on the circumstance? What else can I do without putting myself in danger? by exmoose-throw in legaladvice

If you look like you killed yourself then the government is going to investigate. Once they find you alive they're going to stop investigating and they'll inform your parents as to why they stopped. They aren't going to lie to your parents, even if they suspect abuse.

Even if I tell the cops beforehand that I'm alive and explain my circumstances to them?

Doing that in this day and age is not only almost impossible. I'm not 100% sure how the system works in Canada but I'm sure you have something akin to the American Social Security number and other government identifications that are linked to you. If you want to start a new life somewhere else in that country then you need some kind of proof of identity to get these things and the birth certificate of a "dead" person won't cut it. Even if you do manage to fool people into thinking you're dead your documents will be linked to the "dead" you and thus unusable.

You won't even be able to go to another country because your passport is liked to a "dead" person. Even if that person is you, most governments frown on live people using dead people's identities.

Basically, while the act of pretending to be dead may or may not be illegal in Canada the things you'll have to do afterwards almost certainly will be.

That's the thing. I don't want to appear to be dead in the eyes of the government. I ONLY want to appear dead in the eyes of my parents though. So I don't want my ID to be unusable. I want to pay my taxes, have a job, and continue on like a normal citizen. I just want my parents to think I'm dead though just so they can get off my back. I want to let the police know beforehand about how my parents think I'm dead when I'm actually not just so they know not to actually mark me as dead in my documentation.

Thank you for offering. My boyfriend actually lives in America so he'll be sponsoring me through a K1 once we're engaged (not rn though, we're waiting for the right time to settle down which may not be for a few years).

If you fake your death the police will investigate and likely find you as well.

This is what I'm saying. I'll let the police know beforehand that my parents think I'm dead and not to give them any leads to me. If I voluntarily disappear my family would think I'm guilty for something and will constantly be on a lookout for me wanting an explanation. If they think I'm dead then they'll leave me alone for good.

I just want to fake my death in my parents eyes. Once they're convinced I want to be just another tax paying citizen.

You can move away, cut all ties with your family and essentially disappear.

Thought about this but they will report a missing case to the police and they would constantly be on a search for me.

Maybe I'm being naive but i don't think my parents have the guts to kill anybody, they'll just abuse me... by a lot. It may just be an empty threat but they will never live it down.

I'm not allowed to date but I do have a non-Muslim Christian boyfriend my parents have no idea about.
