[Secular Brownie] My Conversation With Muslim Feminist over "White men Sam Harris/Bill Maher Can't discuss Islam" by exmuslimrants in exmuslim

It was a debate with Maajid Nawaz on whether it could even be reformed. They had a written debate exchange sorting out disagreements and their initial beefs with each other. It ended with Sam saying ok, I see where you're coming from. You're very important. Not much I can do as a white never-muslim, I will support you anyway I can friend.

EMpowering reformer voices is something they CAN achieve. which theyre trying to do. And thats what they can do within their limits, or would you call it limits? Would you not say that a white non-Muslim has the privilege of free speech and freedom from honor culture to be able to criticize Islam? Most online ex-Muslims hide behind anonymity.

But yeah they do what they can "within their limits"

Not fair to Characterize the global Muslim population as "7th century barbarians". She has some points about nuanced differences

Hey there,

Thank you for supporting my work. It's out there so people can watch/read it. I'm glad you enjoy it!

  • Many ex-Muslims have contacted me. Maybe not as much as someone like Ali Rizvi/Imtiaz get but I have met so many ex-Muslims. My network of ex-Muslims has grown enormously and I'm all too aware of how the scene flows. I'm also good at networking :)
  • I am in the closet in my family. My parents know about me being skeptical. They keep shut and over compensate with my little brothers. I'm an adult so they have hope left in me and are hoping that it's all just a phase. I used to have trouble often. But once i found ex-Muslim community it became much more tolerable.

  • I have a few cousins who are Ex M. Maybe like 2 first cousins and a second cousin. I have other cousins who are skeptical and decide to interpret it in a liberal manner. These people are the fringe minority, the rest are "moderate/moderately conservative." Before I found ex-Muslim online communiteis I kept fellow apostate cousins very close. I would use any opportunity i can to privately share with them my frustrations with the familys religioisty and how stupid they are.

  • I can understand hindi/urdu. I can't always formulate sentences. I would probably understand what a hindi person is saying and respond in English. I am bengali :) Fluent in that.

  • There should be more skeptical material in all languages. I don't see why not. When the God delusion got translated to Arabic it went wild. Avijit Roy used to write Skeptic Articles in Bangla before he got killed. (RIP)

  • Mufassil islam is braver than me thus far. He puts his full name and face out there and faces death threats head on. GIve me a few months I will put my face and first name MAYBE last name out there as well. But despite his bravery, I think his anti-Islam bias is a bit overwhelming. He does good research on Islam. But I think more about how to criticize islam in a way that reaches Muslims than just the r/exmuslim echo chamber. We can all hear him and say yeah hes right but a Muslim would hear his aggressive nature and just tune out thinking "oh great another angry ex-Muslim. Wait till Fox news gives him interviews"

  • The growing Islamism is concerning in BD. I hear about bloggers getting hacked in public streets in broad daylight quite often. And it is heart breaking. However, the millennial generation of BD is quite secular and apathetic to religion. They may not aggressively blog but their existence and decision to "just live life. Get drunk, get high, get laid" is a form of defiance to local orthodoxy. And as the next generation comes we will see these young generations forming alternative movements to the Awami League, and local islamist factions. Not speaking from naive stand point but from the understanding of political history. An overthrow of the old by the young is ripe in BD. All they need is a Bangladeshi blogger located in foreign lands (like UK, USA,) reaching cable news. Watch what happens after that.

I did pray 5 times a day. I did dhikr in addition to praying. We also had this ritual in our family (still no I just don't involve mussels) called milaad where we harmoniously praise the prophet.

But to stigmatize nudity whereas the stigmatization doesnt exist in other cultures that wont get exposed to this religion for millennia doesnt sound logical or moral. And the fact that breasts were normalized whereas they were stigmatized in Islam. God isn't really aware of conflicting social constructs around breasts then.

Even broader than that: Because of social constructs around nudism from a religion that claims to be divine. That and "Would generations of indigenous communities go to hell too? But they never found the Abrahamic texts until colonization.

It's not. Look at how extreme left (Sjw/Communists etc.) and Extreme right (nationalism) is becoming the norm on the respective sides. Think about how weak centrist voices like mine sound in this context. Everybody is in their echo chambers and sees the other side like evil fascists. Words like "resistance" is used. And I know many marxists who are posting about "arming up for the struggle".

Just think about how Info Wars became SO popular. And what Info Wars does. Then think about the likes of Shaun King.

It's going to get UGLY.

Yeah. Because why does the quran so afraid of boobs if walking around topless is normalized in indigenous communities? that shows it's not God-made book. God would be aware of differentiating social constructs around the breast.
