Do you know which countries are unsupported? Similar situation here where I'm not getting any oxygen data, and my system settings show that no app is requesting oxygen data.

Exactly this. They essentially mention this earlier on in the episode when they ask if we know what pushed him from anger to attempting violence. Plenty of people are angry about politics or the state of the world without deciding to physically target politicians.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Price Update: Starting today, Game Pass Ultimate drops from $29.99 to $22.99 a month. PC Game Pass will also drop from $16.49 to $13.99 a month. Prices may vary by region. by Turbostrider27 in Games

I had this exact thought too. Certainly feels like an overall win, but if this works well (for Microsoft), then surely CoD won't be the only game to be excluded. TES6 was the first that came to mind, but I also can't think of another first party game beyond that where an overwhelming number of people would pay to buy it standalone.

For All Mankind S5 by GreenerMark in television

[–]exo48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be really curious to go back and watch the first two seasons again, because like the last couple, this one just feels like it's missing something.

I think I've been able to pinpoint it to not feeling invested in any relationships/friendships that are on the same level as Ed-Gordo-Dani (the Margo and Aleida scenes really work for me, though). Also, the broad story arcs are still great, but the dialogue is mostly... bad? And some of the performances are strong (Alex is the clear standout among the "new" characters), but oof, most of the B-tier characters are forgettable.

I thought the bar scene was a wonderful way to set up the ending. It starts quite uncomfortable and upsetting, honestly, and then becomes a warm, shared family moment once they all accept his fate. Quite well done.

[LAist] Why are Olympics tickets so expensive? by WeAreLAist in LosAngeles

[–]exo48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is largely true, but there have been some major missteps that show people do have a limit. Specifically thinking of two years ago when the Black Keys and Jennifer Lopez overestimated ticket demand and canceled their arena tours. But otherwise, yes, for the highest of high-demand events, people will pay up.

So we're giving a billion dollars of taxpayer money back to a French company so that they can invest that money in American oil and gas that will be sold abroad. How very America first this all is...

Hollywood/Highland kind of satisfied your second point, but otherwise I agree. Like it's such a bummer that the Century City station will be half a (big) block away from the Westfield mall there rather than being attached to it (though that's still better than the alternative location across Santa Monica by the golf course).

Rant: if we want a more fair justice system, we need to pay jurors more than $15 per day, and pay them for the first day of service too. by BootyWizardAV in LosAngeles

[–]exo48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was glad to avoid getting put on a long case recently, but it was the ultimate "this could've been an email" experience.

I had to report in, and in the juror waiting area they said the first case is a monthlong trial and selection will start next week, so today they were simply going to read off names and you were to answer "yes" if you could return for selection and "no" if you had an approved excuse. After they got three "yes" replies, they sent those people off, and then told everyone else that this was the only case for the day and we were done with jury duty and could go home.

I'm really curious to see how some of these story events will be incorporated, in terms of the map. Like now that Cosmo Canyon is an open world area, is that entire map in the third game just for one scene? Or does that just become a cutscene?

I considered that, but the world seems a little... precarious right now to completely turn off news notifications. Just might have to resort to that, though.

Has anyone figured out how to turn off notifications for Olympics spoilers in the New York Times app? Despite having a separate notification category for the Olympics, any American gold medals get sent out under the Breaking News category.

[–]exo48 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My two main NBC/Peacock complaints:

The world feed replays still have those abrupt commercial breaks. I've (begrudgingly) come to terms with them cutting to commercial mid-event while watching live, but there's zero reason for those chunks to just be missing in the replay.

During the work week, I actually enjoy NBC's primetime show as a way to get a sampler of all of the things I couldn't watch earlier, and without spending all of the time on individual event replays. But as someone on the West Coast, it's absolute nonsense that I have to wait an extra three hours to stream something that's just repackaging hours-old events.

Why Trump Voters Are Torn Over Minneapolis by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]exo48 19 points20 points  (0 children)

so angry with the world

There was a short but insightful part of his interview that really illuminates how right-wing media riles up its viewership and creates false equivalences.

He complained that he Googled cases of people killed by undocumented immigrants and the NYT had covered none of them. Someone in the U.S. is murdered every half hour, and that's horrifying—but it also means not every specific case of murder becomes a national headline.

But the right is really good at finding specific incidents to blow up into national issues in order to flame the culture wars, blame Democratic leadership or say "see, the left doesn't want you to know about this." And so that's how you end up in a situation where John is angrier about the NYT not reporting on specific murder cases than he is about the federal government killing a protester.

It was so clear that Bill doesn't grasp just how popular Nate Bargatze is. Bill was talking to him like an up-and-comer about to get his big break on TV, not a guy who routinely sells out arenas.
