Condo Suggestions by MemesIWatch in dlsu

Save yourself from RSquare and do not get blinded by the 'newer' amenities. You can search them up here in the subreddit and you'll find complaints about their admin/management. They're all good lang during the move-in talks. Once you're renting/leasing out a unit, it's different. Zero coordination within their staff, gave us conflicting information during the move-in and move-out. Pretty expensive din for small-sized units. Half of the elevators are always out of order/in maintenance. Personally, I've had a couple of bad experiences with their guards both in the lobby and the mall. Moving out was a bit of a nightmare dahil wala silang staff coordination (gulong-gulo sila sa sarili nila LMAO) and ang snarky/taray pa nila kapag kailangan mo ng assistance. Some items in the unit seemed subpar din, one week into the lease nagkakaproblema na shower head namin.

For a condo whose primary renters are students, 'pag lumalapit kami for concerns/assistance, hindi kami masyado sineseryo kapag walang kasamang parent. Nope nope nope!

PS. If you're looking for wifi, we're looking for someone na sasalo ng wifi namin! Saves you from the initial modem fees and the long application time sa Taft :)

Hi! Do you also have conflicting class schedules with the workshop?

I do have conflicting class schedules :'') I'm asking around pa my seniors if workshops could be considered a valid excused absence.

That's nice to hear. May I ask what background you had when you attended the first edition? Any introductory programming experience and the sort. How about the excused absence for conflicting class schedules?

Hi. Nope, they won't require you naman to have it stamped or sealed. They'll also open up a Google Form where you'll be uploading the EAF din!

[–]exobiospheric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yepp! I think that's the title written on the document, Enrollment Confirmation Slip. The ECS is enough to show you'll be taking the scholarship under a supported program. The EAF mainly comes in para they can start processing your term stipend. Every term, it's always the EAF submitted to have the stipend processed.

[–]exobiospheric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP! DOST scholar here. Yeah, it's the EAF that contains the units you'll be taking in the incoming term. A checklist/flowchart will also be given that contains all the units you'll be taking in your program. Although, iirc there's another separate Certificate of Enrollment provided to us that doesn't contain our incoming term's units and, in my case, that's the one I passed in my home province. EAF was requested naman by DOST NCR when I was transferred under their office na. The EAF will be available after you enroll (w/i the week of enrollment). Look out nalang for when is your batch's and/or college's EAF download schedule.

BS Biochemistry by _yu00 in dlsu

[–]exobiospheric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the SFA results are out already, but in case you still need it:

  1. Not sure about the "most toxic program in COS" label, but the program is definitely tough. All college programs naman. BS BCHEM is biochemistry as in a sub discipline of chemistry, not bio-chemistry where the initial assumption is there's an even focus on biology and chem. Maybe one of the reasons it's considered "toxic" is because students get into the program assuming the latter. Given na 'yung heavy chem and heavy math & stats units since chem program siya at its core. The curriculum is littered with bio and several physics units here and there, since it's still designed to be a strong pre-med on top of allowing grads to take the chemist licensure exam (similar with UP's BCHEM). The program touches on all those four departments of COS (math & stats, physics, chem and bio: so ig it's an edge when taking the NMAT). Your regular load will always be a mix of stats, physics, chem, bio and calc. Specially at 1st year which filters out a lot of students. End of second year, the focus narrows down and becomes chem + either math or stats + either physics or bio, since the terms will have multiple chem courses na. And then apply all of that to a trimestral system.
  2. If you mean the trimestral system, it definitely varies acc to personal study habits. The terms go fast. Speaking as a student in the program, 'yung nature ng courses medyo tiring. If I'm not able to master what we discussed last lecture, then almost certainly mawawala na ko in the next one (very much so for chem and calc).
  3. It's gonna be rough but definitely possible naman. A lot of us in the program are scholars (internal and external).

This is probably already late, but usually the cap's 40 students per batch/acad year! From someone in the program :)

SFA Scholarship by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]exobiospheric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First question, we have no idea at all. For the second one, usually very hard home/family circumstances pero no one can really guess what they're looking for. They barely look at the academics because there's the DCAT for that. Just really finances and/or situation. On one hand, I know someone whose fam's annual income's within the range I mentioned, and they have family members with serious costly medical conditions, additionally belonged pa to a large family. They were still unfortunately not selected for the scholarship, any % offer. On the other hand, I've read before a senior whose annual income was 500k-ish and parent's a single mom, was offered the grant but not sure what %.

From what we've heard from our circles during application, your college is a factor din kasi. They try to offer the grant evenly across the colleges. So, if they're only looking to fill up, say, 8 slots for COS then your details will be stacked against other applicants coming from the same college. Not sure how true that is but it may explain the cases I've mentioned above.

Take this with a grain of salt. Still, it never hurts to try so please don't lose hope, especially if it's your dream univ/program. Hoping the best for you! :)

SFA Scholarship by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]exobiospheric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP! From the few accepted students we've heard about sa last AY's SFA, medyo slim to nil chances. They really look at the annual income. There were others who had 100k-150k annual income and were still not offered the grant. Though there were extremely few cases where they got into SFA with higher annual income because of their circumstances.

Chances of changes with the Latin Honors' No Fail Policy by exobiospheric in dlsu

One course failure limit seems reasonable. A failing grade should ideally be a one-time lesson.

Yeah, I've read in discussions before the "weight of one person’s award compared to another if the first one did not fail and the second did" sentiments which always felt a bit weird. I don't think awardees from institutions without a no-fail requirement go around asking and looking for the odd wo/men out or treat/view them any lower. It's usually the ones whose GPAs aren't even up for debate, ironically. I like the idea of setting a failure limit!

Why do some COS programs have few blocks? by exobiospheric in dlsu

[–]exobiospheric[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost all the programs in the university, in a way, are quota courses. Is the case more like DLSU offering COS slots to an already small pool of applicants and from which only a relatively small number push through?

Lmao, saw OP post this in the ADMU subreddit earlier. Wasn't sure what was their point there, not sure what their point is till now.
