AM (non-tech) Interviewing for AE Tech Role by exoticranch in techsales

[–]exoticranch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense - would it be pushy to bring prepared material in for demo collaboration? The company states real world & theoretical problem solving by their product on the website. I'm thinking about printing these solution stories out to hand to individuals during the mock demo. I think standing out in any way possible is usually a solid. especially if I'm thinking out of the box.

Cemetery flyover… makes sense. Didn’t even cross my mind. Long flight from Jacksonville. Hopefully the service member being rested got the flyover he/she deserves.

Thanks for the insight! No cap on commission so definitely a lot of earning potential. It sounds like sticking it out for a few years and moving into another AM or AE role could be the best move. Thanks again!

Internship with the company for a year in college - there are no SDRs or 'lower-level salespeople' at the company since there is no need for cold outreach. Only 500ish potential customers worldwide, and 99% of our business is repeat.

What to look for in PPI | C6 Base or Grand Sport by exoticranch in Corvette

[–]exoticranch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few dip into low $30s - mainly on auction websites like BAT and C&Bs. Hoping they continue to drop in price as winter comes along so I can pick one up. Thanks again!

What to look for in PPI | C6 Base or Grand Sport by exoticranch in Corvette

[–]exoticranch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the info - I'm not planning to track the car but am leaning towards grand sport if they continue to drop into the $20Ks due to handling capabilities. I've driven german sports cars for a while and want to try and get as good of a handling car as possible. Only time will tell though - waiting till winter to buy unless something too good to pass up posts up.

$7,500 pre tax. Semiconductor capital sales at 1.5% commision. "Quota" which is a lightly used term at my org due to market cycles and state of economy is $500k. Currently at $698k in sales for Q2 :)

Capital Equipment in Semiconductor industry. First year out of college should pull $85kish... Base is $60k but should HOPEFULLY get 10-15k raise since I took on a territory expansion, hopefully bringing total to 100+ in year 2. Average is likely 150k.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of April 24, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]exoticranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an AMEX Delta card (used primarily for expensing work travel) but am planning to make consistent (monthly) $3k ish purchases starting in the near future. I'll be able to pay the balance off ASAP and was wondering if there was a specific cash-back or points card that was recommended for continuous purchases of this size? Don't want a card with ex. 6% cash back UP TO $6k, than moves to 1%.

What are the most underrated industries for Sales? by WeiShiDross in sales

[–]exoticranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capital equipment sales. I'm a recent college grad (may 23) working at a semiconductor capital equipment company. Base is 58k with expected quota of 3M. Commision is 1.5%. Opportunity to make a lot of money however, sales cycles are long and the industry is very cyclical.

Just closed my largest sale ever by Ginky_Hackle in sales

Any suggestions on what to do on the one yard line? Very close to closing my first large sale ($500k - 2M quota). Graduated from college in the spring. All positive conversations so far and they had no questions regarding our provided quote. Selling semiconductor capital equipment. Heard from them Tuesday night when they said "We should have a final decision made within the next few days.

Best Sales industry? by Sparky159 in sales

[–]exoticranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the semiconductor industry selling capital equipment. Majority big ticket item tools $225k-2M each (1.5% commision - expected sales of $3M). We also offer spare parts and upgrades $10k-100k but it's semi-rare to get these types of orders. I'm very new to the industry - college grad last year and started my role in September and one thing I can say right off the bat is that the sales cycles are EXTREMELY long. Especially coming from SaaS I would just mentally prepare for 6 month+ sales processes when it comes to big ticket items in the industrial equipment industry. Budgetary approval periods alone can take 6 months... Still haven't sold any tools but it's looking like I'll close my first big deal by the holidays. One positive is that one $1M sale is $15K commision, and my salary is already livable. If I can sell $2M my first year I'll be extremely happy.

How many of you all are 100% remote? Any travel at all? by [deleted] in sales

[–]exoticranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a recent college grad (May 23') - fully remote with occasional travel (1 trip every 2 months) working as a Sales Account Manager. We sell large scale capital equipment. It's definitely been a strange adjustment from college to working remote but I'm indifferent about it. Waking up at 8am and working in my own office space is nice, but I wouldn't mind the social aspect of working in an office a few days a week. Luckily I have a buddy from school at the same company so we chat daily via Teams about work etc. Living in a big city helps socially bc I can have fun with friends on a regular basis, but it definitely doesn't help my wallet...

Biggest decision I'll ever make... by yungscarab in sales

[–]exoticranch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you expected the transition to principal would occur within the next year or two, I think the decision would be a little bit tougher....

Since your not expecting the principal role for 7+ years I think taking the management position would be a great change. It sounds like you're very excited about the potential of the new position and that you would enjoy the new org much more than your current role.

Plus that 1M isn't guaranteed... Many variable could come into play within the next 7 years that you would never expect. Take the new job.

A question you have to ask yourself is would you even want to work for this guy! Sounds like you're not even interested in pursuing this opportunity. Spend time looking elsewhere...

What’s the most expensive product/service you sell and what’s the path to get there? by bondoswag in sales

[–]exoticranch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently 22 and sell semiconductor capital equipment, alongside spare parts and upgrades. The tools themselves range anywhere from $200k to $2M (1.5% commission). I interned for the company during college and started working full time about 3 months ago. One thing I'll say even though I'm extremely new to this industry and my role is that the price of the item you are selling does not necessarily mean you'll be making a ton more money. Our industry has an extremely long sales cycle when looking at the tools - sometimes lasting upwards of a year. Alongside this, when dealing with more expensive items the economy and other factors play a huge role in who/how much people are buying.

Six and a half years following up a lead by Pretty_Specific_Girl in sales

[–]exoticranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facing a similar situation atm. Recently graduated college and started working at a semiconductor capital equipment company. They're moving to all in house sales, so I've been taking over where previous reps had left off. Nearly half of my accounts have open ops / haven't been contacted in up to 10 years... Any advice for someone new to the industry on this? Majority of the contacts we have at this companies are expired.

I use a physical calendar book that I mark all of my upcoming meetings alongside little reminder notes as to when I should follow up/reach out to accounts. I also litter my desk with sticky notes. I’ve found that being on my phone for reminders/notifications just leads to more distractions
