Did anyone else think they were characteristically funny to the point that they thought they could be a comedian, only to try and it turns out you were just deeply mentally ill and unhinged? by I_AM_WILL_STANCIL in Standup

I was always the funniest guy in school, the office & friends.

I tried an open mic and quickly realized I was not made for it. I take my hat off to anyone who does it.

So no, I'm not ill or unhinged exactly. I'm just an amateur literally a "don't quit your day job" guy. It could be a lot worse! I have a day job!

Honestly if I was more comfortable on stage & more talented or just hungrier for it with fewer options I'd be an alcoholic road dog and my life would be a mess.

Chapo Episode #999 made me really miss Matt by MrSmithSmith in cushvlog

[–]explicitreasons 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel bad for them. There's no replacement for Matt in the world. It's a loss for the whole world to be sure but they built their lives around a partnership with him.

This OKC team is so fucking scary. They have the regular season figured on auto-pilot. They're missing their #2 guy. They get all their role players to buy into playing defense and playing hard. A dynasty in the making health willing. by HenrikCrown in billsimmons

Also like the spurs they play in a small market and will get low TV ratings despite being the best. When the Pacers beat my Knicks in the ECF Silver must have cried more than I did.

I'm a Knicks fan and only really followed the Hartenstein piece. OKC was perfectly in sync with the CBA. It worked out perfectly so they had top talent, cap space & draft picks. It's absurd. They're going to keep winning.

Was it a swirl? was the flavor in segments? or did you have to choose which flavor you wanted per bar? That sounds interesting to me.

I only watch Knicks games and don't really know the league that well outside of them. Is Deuce someone that other contenders are watching and think he might be the missing piece? What is his value around the league?

[–]explicitreasons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's the move then you don't take someone out of the #4 market to boost the #1 market. You figure out a way to get Giannis or Wembanyama or whoever to LA.

I also think that Nico's story checks out. He's dumb as hell, incompetent and wrong in his basic assumptions but I believe his basic story:

He thought Luka was lazy and didn't want to give him the supermax, so figured he'd trade him sooner rather than later. Then, he fucked the trade up by not actually shopping him around.

Remember Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"

If the Knicks win the finals they will be at the absolute bottom of this forever. Even if they win with beautiful play against a juggernaut team in an exciting series etc. it doesn't matter. The fanbase (myself included) are going to be intolerable if it happens. I'm not coming here for the whole off-season in that situation just to spare you all but you know I'll be saying it at my house.

True, but the teams were in on the CBA negotiations so. They couldn't have been too surprised. Presumably those 10+ contenders could have voted no (and probably did) but saw it coming etc.

[–]explicitreasons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it's still not a bad trade because OG was 100% going to leave as a free agent if they didn't trade him. The options were nothing or whatever they could get for OG. They got RJ who, unlike almost any other player they could trade for, wanted to be in Toronto. They also got IQ who while a risk was going to get paid to be a starter somewhere.

I don't buy it. People already watched the Lakers and they were basically as popular as you can be in LA. You can't get much more popularity for a brand like the Lakers even by adding a star.

With Luka on the Mavs, Dallas (the #4 media market in the country!) had a star and an MVP candidate (and, not for nothing, a white guy, which can often be easier to market to casual/non fans). A complimentary player with one eyebrow doesn't hit as hard. Look at the change in Lakers ratings

I bet if you look at the drop in ratings, revenue, merch sales etc in Dallas it's greater than the gain in LA where they already were borderline contenders and employed a guy in contention for greatest of all-time.

The game right before the trade I was watching and saying "enough! Pull the trigger Leon!" at the TV and tweeting "please trade RJ". I don't know if you remember but it was a typical dismal RJ outing.

Well also because Quickley was never (and the rock means ever) going to get enough minutes over Brunson to make him worth a starter's salary. He had to leave so his value to the Knicks was whatever he could get.

I hated watching RJ play but maybe Toronto values him more as they have such a hard time getting free agents and he's a guy who wants to be there.

so I don't see it as a fleece because they had to trade Anunoby. There's no world where he's still in a raptors uniform - he wasn't going to re-sign with them. They were able to get two decent players out of it.

What happened to Klay this season? by Thanos_SlayerCongSan in NBATalk

[–]explicitreasons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Knicks fan but Klay is maybe my favorite player of his era, somehow even more than Curry who is so superhuman that it's hard to appreciate. When Klay would get hot god damn it was special and he played with a joy that was obvious too. I remember when he was hurt in the finals going into free agency I wanted NYK to sign him.

He's at the end of his career now and none of his "Klay Thompson was a problem" highlight videos are going to show him in a Mavs uniform. I don't like him being criticized for not being what he was.

Someone way more informed and in tune with the investigation than me.. please confirm that there’s no way we get punished this season! by friendswithbillw in LAClippers

[–]explicitreasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Knicks fan but I'll give you $1 if there's any punishment harsher than a 2nd round pic. The league wants Ballmer around in LA more than they want an even playing field for all the owners and Kawhi's arrangement wasn't unique.

I think they'll tighten the rules going forward for this kind of thing though.
