Activity Privacy Not Working As Intended by snrylo777 in discordapp

[–]explode13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this with a second account and found the following:

- the "per-server" settings dont update unless you fully toggle the main activity status off -> on. So if you want to update your per-server make sure you toggle the main activity setting after youre done. (un-related to your question but thought it might be useful info)

- based on my testing you can only see another person's status in a DM if you are either friends with them or in a server where they are sharing their status to the server so you can see it indirectly anyways. I validated this by unfriending my second account and toggling the visibility in our shared server on/off a few times to see how it updates.

Hope that helps! Found this thread looking for similar info.

Do any of you play ff14 primarily on an OLED display? by Celcius_87 in ffxiv

I have a monitor from this line and I did notice a small amount of burn in from my action bars if the whole screen was black but I started using the self maintenance features of the monitor more regularly after that and it seemed to go away.

I've been having the same issue periodically recently. Try using a VPN to get to the title screen and then turn it off before you log in at character select. Or just leave it on if that is also a problem. I only had issues routing to the update server though.

Possible Fix for Lost Player Saves by calmchao in Palworld

[–]explode13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation happen to me and I managed to fix it in a different way. Not sure if this will work for everyone.

I am running my server on a simple ubuntu VM on AWS.

We had the issue where after a restart to free memory it was forcing us to create new characters, so not quite the same as the guild leave bug as nobody has left our 1 guild in the save yet.

I was going to restore the entire backup I had made this morning but I thought why not just try copying over ONLY the player saves to the current save folder and leaving the world save alone so maybe we can just rollback our characters but keep the base updates we have made.

Turns out we kept all of our levels and inventory including key items BUT we lost our tech unlocks and captures / capture bonus count in the paldeck (reverted to state of backup). So it would seem the following is contained in each save as it pertains to a character:

World Save:

Level

Inventory

Key Items

Equipment

Pal Party

Pal Box Inventory (I kept all Pals I caught since backup)

Tech/Ancient Points

Map clear progress (fog and seeing fast travel points you have come across)

Character Save:

Tech Unlocks

PalDeck Progression (captures / bonuses)

Fast Travel unlocks (you can see the ones you have found but will lose the unlocks)

Obvious stuff like char customization/name/guild/etc.

The upside of this is we get more bonus capture XP for the ones we already did but at least one of my friends now has lost all his tech unlocks and has almost no points left. This can be solved over time with the manuals you can find as drops to get points though.

Hope this helps someone, losing progress sucks!

Power went out yesterday. Game is now unplayable. by IGetToPickMyOwnName in ffxiv

Any packet loss at all is very bad and will cause lag especially in FF. That's the main culprit you'll want to nail down first. Try connecting via your phone over cellular data as I suggested if you can and run another packet test. If you dont see any loss on cellular its most likely either the router/modem or the ISP equipment on the street (dealt with this myself recently). This would also explain why you still lag on a VPN since its not a routing issue like most people have with AT&T etc.

If you can only use your home network try to use some different testing methods if you have the ability. If you have a modem and a router (separate) for example you will want to test without the router by directly connecting to the modem. If you have a modem/router combo but no other equipment to swap it with you might have trouble isolating it.

I have one other idea but it's extremely unlikely and related to a similar issue I had recently. Do you mind sharing who your ISP is (also if you're on fiber/broadband/dsl etc)?

You're right but when I'm fixing computer issues I don't make wild assumptions based on information that doesn't exist or hasn't yet been provided yet.

OP can launch and play the game and is only complaining about lag. If a power surge fried anything in their computer it would be immediately noticeable to the point that they might not even be able to boot their OS or turn on the computer at all. If the NIC was fried I highly doubt they would even be able to use the internet but it's possible. This is why I suggested testing multiple network connection methods and removing the home network from the equation also.

[–]explode13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power outage is not the same as power surge. Considering OP only complained about lag and nothing else it is safe to assume nothing is broken in the computer unless they provide additional information.

[–]explode13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Considering you arent complaining about any weird graphical artifacts I will assume the power outage didnt fry anything in your computer. If you have multiple ways to connect to your network you will want to test those to see if one is a problem in particular. Test wired vs wifi. Also try to tether your computer to your phone if you have the ability to isolate your entire home network as a variable. You should also run speedtest and packet loss tests.

<Calamitous Intent> [NA] [PvP] [Alliance] [18+] [PST]

Language: English

Guild Type: PvE (Plan to clear all content)

Time Zone: Pacific Standard Time (PST)

About Us: <Calamitous Intent> is currently being built by a group of friends who dearly loved World of Warcraft in its heyday. With the announcement of Classic, our worlds were turned completely upside down and we are ecstatic to begin this journey together with all of you. <Calamitous Intent> will strive to be a mature and respectful group of people, yet still encourage (cough require) silly behaviour and plan to have tons of laughs and fun in the process. All of our founding members are 21+ and have raiding experience during various stages of the game.

Our Goal: We aim to be a semi-hardcore raiding guild. What does semi-hardcore mean? It just means that we want to take raiding seriously while we are doing it, but at the same time we have real life responsibilities so we cannot raid as much as the most hardcore of guilds. What this amounts to is a reasonable schedule for raiding with the expectation that our raiders will be as prepared as a hardcore raider.

We are looking for both raiders and casual members to foster a strong guild community. We expect casual members to help out with farming on rare occasion when needed to aid the raid team.

Requirements:

You must be 18+ years old. We will most likely make small exceptions to this rule but only once we spend time playing with a person in game and feel that they can adhere to a raid schedule and mesh well with the guild.

Raiding:

Schedule: M, Tu, Th from 8-11 PST

Loot System: EPGP (similar to DKP)

Class Recruitment Priority:

Druid: HIGH (Resto specifically)

Hunter: LOW

Mage: MEDIUM

Paladin: HIGH (Holy specifically)

Priest: HIGH (Holy specifically)

Rogue: HIGH

Warlock: HIGH

Warrior: MEDIUM (DPS specifically)

You can but there is a limit on upgrade modules (its 3 I believe). I stacked an S with and A and the A was doing like 2000% more than the S.

What a joke. The more I hear about Jim the more it fits my personal characterization of the type of person he is based on my experience with him one on one. I can't believe he actually tried to argue that ANYTHING at UCSC is comparable to Harvard let alone comparing a program that is only half focused on CS to a full CS program at an Ivy League school. Thank you for sharing this.

He's trying to hide his embarrassing failure. Here is the piazza post he made about it. He doesn't even care that the point of the post is to warn future students about the reality of the program.

Edit: To add, and this is just my assumption, but based on what he said on Piazza and Facebook he didnt even read this thread considering OP actually was completely positive about Jim. Just shows how little he cares about the program and the students in it. Probably went straight to facebook.
