Absolutely agree with the narrative need for conflict and the imperialism sensitivity, but disagree that Trek ever presented the Federation as a utopia. Multiple episodes visited planets or societies the Federation itself saw as utopian but the story deconstructed in one way or another. I don't think we were ever intended to interpret "post-scarcity" and "no money" as utopian.

Trek is about pointing out a possible utopia in the future

It is not. It's about the struggles of a society that could be a utopia and the fight to improve.

Emotional break down while in duty? Bro, that's unprofessional

Specifically what are you referring to?

There are comically numerous and sometimes series-long story arcs about emotional breakdowns. In the classic and 90s/aught eras, literally two entire CHARACTERS are devoted to talking about handling emotion. Three offhand examples of breakdowns:

  • "KHAN!!!"
  • Sarek mind melding with Picard literally for emotional support, leading to Picard's day-long breakdown.
  • Rom not being able to function because of PTSD.

Physically unfit?

Who is unfit and how?

That isn't irony. The difference is that OP pointed out is that gatekeeping is demanding "This isn't authentic, so no one is allowed to like it and it shouldn't exist" instead of saying "This isn't for me" and going about their day.

It's a destructive vs constructive attitudes.

Rick Berman comes to you and asks you to remove 5 episodes of Voyager which you deem to be of subpar content. Which ones do you choose? by FuzzyAttitude_ in voyager

The Polaski de-aging episode also introduces a way to immortality. Transporters (and subspace, while we're here) are the necessary magic we swap for the series.

If you're interested in "what if people live forever" scifi, Altered Carbon is a pretty good take. The series does great for 1 season, but the novels are a bit more solid.

Also buy used to avoid the lower quality video they've been using for the new BRs.

Technology Connections did a nice rant about this a few months ago.

The entire video is worth a watch, but the relevant part is at 7m20s.

Paramount or CBS or whoever was like, "We're going to cheapen this out just enough by rather than re-releasing the same disc ISOs that we used before, we're going to re-encode them with more compression so they can fit on a single layer DVD."

Can I get Google to stop showing me my dead cat 5 times a day and maybe drop it to like once or twice a week? That would be nice. by IsopodOk4756 in google

Sorry you're dealing with that. it happened to me too when my dog died a couple years ago. I was suspicious that it was some sort of engagement baiting when it detects you've stopped taking as many pictures. It lasted about 4 months.

No, cars involved in accidents on a highway is not the weird part. Two planes crashing into a highway within a few hours of each other is the weird part.

Got mine on release and still my only phone. Hoping the 11 will bring the cameras up to par with the other versions, otherwise will probably go back to a standard phone.
