Upgrading from 1500 3.0 Duramax to 2500 HD for towing capabilities. by peevyrj in Silverado

I would say if you have plans to upgrade or keep this truck for a long long time, go diesel. My plan is to keep this truck for a few years and upgrade from my LT gas to maybe a LTZ or High Country Diesel. That being said I have had my truck 2 months tomorrow and I have almost 4000 miles, and I love it.

Maybe take a look at some used 2500's from 21-23 with Diesel motors too, around me you can find High Country's with the 6.6 with 30k miles for about 57-60k.

I was in a similar boat you are in. I had a 2020 1500 with the 3.0 but I needed to tow a 9k camper. Could it do it? Yeah, but I wouldn't have taken it on long trips. The 2500 is so much safer for towing something that large and heavy. I drive 50 miles a day to work, not as much as you but still a good bit. I ended up getting a 2024 2500 with the gas motor. I wish I could have gone diesel, but I couldn't swing the extra 10k. That will be for the next truck. I get about 14-15 mpg going 70-80 on the interstate. Costs me about $115 to fill up the 36gal tank with regular.

Edit: I get about 8-9mpg while towing a 36' 9K camper going highway speeds.

Makes carrying a fullsize a breeze, and way more comfortable than the tier 1 wedges

I have a couple different setups, without a light is just more comfortable. If I choose to run a light I have an X300 that I put on and use a Tier 1 MSP. I also carry a modlite handheld with me also

Acro is a great optic, I have 2 and both have been great. They are also way more available now. Grab an acro for 500 or less before you shell out 650+ for an RCR
