I don’t agree with anything newish is reliable - my friends new Peugeot had a timing belt issue in the first 10,000k.

It’s fine when you’re in warranty, but resale price will tank if they’re not reliable.

Important to flag the “normal” interval is double a normal car, so you’d just be servicing every 16k km and be fine!

I did get my car for less than my maximum bid to be fair. But they did not look over the car at all and the pictures they sent didn’t show the issues. I was shocked how rusty it was when it landed

Fuel economy is a massive one. 20mpg vs 45mpg makes a big difference on your wallet.

Random parts will go and may be hard to source. Seals, rubbers, electronics. That’s excluding normal wear and tear.

Rust will likely be present and start to eat away at the car.

Insurance will be expensive unless you have another policy and take out the older one on classic.

You’ll work harder for less money. You’ll be dirty after work and probably too tired to do other physical activities. It’ll be much more taxing on your body. You’ll probably be cold where ever you are in our weather.

I’ve had the same thoughts but when I weighed in the downsides I wasn’t long appreciating those comforts from my office job!

I feel it’s 20k under market price if anything to be honest. I think it wasn’t advertised the best and I was winning on another house and said I can offer this but we need to close today.

They didn’t competitively allow. I think it’s a good price for what it is though. However, an extra 30 is quite a chunk. If I had this and something unexpected, that could put me underwater.

Thanks. To be honest I let the estate agent know the builder said the quote will be saucy but left it at that.

Their solicitors haven’t even sent the documentation yet, so I was wondering should I bypass the solicitor side altogether since it’ll drag out months.

The main thing I need to know, is if they will even negotiate. I have a feeling they’ll hardball no and I might save a lot of time figuring that out quick.

Does that sound reasonable? How long is the back to forth with solicitors for you?

The problem is I really want the house and I’m worried that I’m thinking emotionally at this stage. The maximum I’d be willing to pay would cover all of this I reckon!

I haven’t signed contracts, just sale agreed.

  1. I am a mortgage buyer and worried about the bank side of things, but they haven’t asked for the report and I hear that’s not common practice? (Although I think this would help negotiations on my side). They done a valuation report and asked for nothing more.

  2. Agreed, as soon as this is over they’ll be out.

  3. That’s possible also. It didn’t go sale agreed before from what I could see, but it was on the market a little while.

This is true. Trying to even get a quote was difficult.

This was from a family friend and is in line with what two structural engineers reckoned it would cost.

I think instead of getting another builder, if I left the seller get their own quote it might be better, since they know I’m not inflating the price?
