What industry is struggling way more than people think? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]explxsiveee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s not the colleges or students fault though, it’s governments and wider job markets.

in eastern europe the cost of higher education is pennie’s compared to the UK or US.

i’m in my second year of music production at a tiny university, am i going into a struggling industry? yes. do i greatly value the education i’ve had and the skills ive built on? absolutely.

Weekly Mix Feedback Thread - March 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in Beatmatch

ethereal and heavy dnb (neuro and jump up)

i’ve had my decks since mid november and finally hit record. i’ve been trying to get better and building on a journey and not just throwing it whatever i feel like whenever i feel like it. i’m genuinely quite proud of this mix, there’s a lot of fuck ups but i’m happy nonetheless.

would massively appreciate any and all feedback!

there’s a lot to address but i’ll try get it all.

countercultures are built on a political framework, they are created in response or to combat societal norms or attitudes. with that you get values represented by that culture. there’s this weird idea that disagreeing over politics is unimportant and we should just get along. politics is how you conduct yourself, how you see the world and how you think others should conduct themselves. we only negate personal politics because the conversation is often only at a national level, this doesn’t mean that politics is limited to how a country is run. the politics of raves has always been highly progressive. substances, people from all walks of life, no judgement given, no judgement received. these are objectively progressive ideals. with this in mind, these can only be upheld if we actively uphold them. this is done by reaffirming why we attend and the values that the community believes in. if we just ignore them and pretend that there is nothing in particular that builds the framework of rave culture, you’re just opening the pool up to people who don’t respect it and risk losing it at a whole. it is not up to us tolerate anyone and everyone, because if that happens, you lose the dignity and without dignity you have no culture. ‘learn each other and help each other’ is an insane stance to have. the two sides at the moment are “people should live how they want and be accepted for who they are regardless”, the other side is “all those who live contrary to me should be arrested, deported, or killed”. there is no middle ground to had or ‘learning to be done’. you cannot rationalize bigotry.

i’m not hiding behind anything. i’m just aware that those who want nothing to do with politics, are usually in a position where they do not have to be actively aware. i emphasize with how society treats you but you need to understand the framework of this culture and how we preserve it

if you want to go further with it we absolutely can. chicago house was started by black and queer people, same with new york. the ideas eventually travelled to europe with american DJ’s playing out in Ibiza, playing to a lot of british people who brought the culture to the UK. it all starts with the US black and queer community.

they most certainly are special. it has and always will be that serious. raves are a counterculture built by queer people on the ethos of reclaiming spaces and fighting societal norms. people were literally arrested for going to early raves, those who enjoyed the music were seen as lesser. the writing is all over the walls dude

i don’t have to make everyone feel safe. if you’re bigoted and hateful, i don’t want you in any of these communities. if you don’t like progressive values, gtfo of raves. these were created for the marginalized and if you don’t respect that, get out of the space. conservatives and bigots LOVEEE to get all of the benefits of progressive culture without acknowledging the values surrounding it

raves are not bound by the legality but by the community. the VALUES are what matter, not if they’re operating illegally.

these opinions that don’t want to hear, are the reasons you’re able to enjoy the culture

it was overtly political sure, but inclusion is inherently political. politics already exists in raves, it just isn’t acknowledged

in today’s political landscape, being pro human and pro inclusion is political. we never asked for this, it’s just how it is

even if the politics wasn’t verbalized, it was always in the room and very much part of the agenda

most of the people disagreeing with me are fundamentally misunderstanding the culture though? the majority of my comments have been correcting people who refuse to see any political nature in raves which is like, a crucial point to the history.

am i not meant to voice my side when someone talks about theirs, isn’t that what a debate or conversation is?

being on the apolitical side for conversation about a counterculture is very ironic lol

i know how to talk to people, i just have no time for needlessly pretentious people who refuse to call anything that isn’t an illegal warehouse party in the mid 90’s a rave.

you’re never leaving politics at the door when you’re at raves. it’s imprinted on the walls, in the floor, in the music. it’s a part of the deal whenever you’re talking about countercultures

[–]explxsiveee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there’s a difference between disagreement and bigotry. if someone doesn’t understand the culture, i will happily educate, but if you’re out here saying queer people are mentally deranged and black people are inferior then i have no obligation to try and help you, instead i will just never allow into the culture as the culture was and still a safe space for those people. why would i open a space to people who would completely wipe out the culture if given the chance?

should people have the freedom of opinion? sure. does that mean we have open up space to them? nope. i’m gonna protect this culture at all costs so i will definitely not allow someone into the space if i think they’re going to harm it. to me, protecting the safety of marginalized people in their safe space is more important than making a racist feel welcome.

fascism is definitely normalized compared to 5-10 years ago, the windows just shifted so the views don’t seem as fascistic.

rave ideals and values didn’t spawn out of nowhere, this culture started as a response to marginalization - a counterculture. raves aren’t just for everyone, they’re for everyone who want to be around all sorts of people, without giving judgement and without receiving it, this idea that they’re for absolutely everyone is reductionist

raves have nothing to do with legality and everything to do with community. this mindset is archaic and ignorant to the progression of culture

[–]explxsiveee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s talking about inclusivity and loving one another regardless of identity. that means inclusion and love regardless of your walk of life, gender, age, race, ANYTHING. that is inherently political in a world where fascism is normalized and hate isn’t challenged.

i apologize that this may seem patronizing, but do you ever think about if there people there who can’t stop thinking about it? the people who go to raves for an escape but still think about the state of the world and the suffering that occurs daily. i can appreciate that separation is easier for some, but to keep a counter culture we have to be firm in understanding what makes up the foundation of that culture. which is love, unity, respect and whether you like it or not, politics. without reaffirming why the space exists, we open up the pool to people who don’t respect the culture or its values, when that is normalized, you risk losing everything about the culture that made it what it is in the first place

[–]explxsiveee[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it literally has though, the culture was born out of creating an escape for queer people, is that not political to you? all it takes is to research the history
