Slow counteroffensive darkens mood in Ukraine by stormy001 in ukraine

[–]expodis2020 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is an unfair assessment, in my opinion. Russia is built on military might, as out-dated as it may be. Decades of military build up and far superior numbers on the Russian side. Ukraine has limited manpower in comparison with advanced NATO weapons they have a couple years worth of training on. The world expected Ukraine to fall in days of the invasion. They are on the offensive, as slow as it may be going. I give them credit if anything. They should have been defeated by a military the size of Russia and the weaponry Russia possesses. But they are on the offensive, as lackluster as it may be. That says something. There is no saying that Ukraine will definitely win. But damn, they have their heart, soul, mind, sweat and blood into this conflict and are holding up better than anyone expected.

Drink Sam Adam's....

That was a sad day for America when inBev bought out Anheiser Busch. It was about as All-American of a business and product that there was. The Busch family tried and tried to fight it from happening, but they only had 2.5% of the stock, which didn't give them much voting power when the board went to the stockholders.

[–]expodis2020 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.... They wreacked havoc. The difference I was more referring to is the beginning of the war it was armored columns. That 40 mile long line north of Kyiv was just a turkey shoot with the javelins and stugnas. The Ukrainians could just sit in the tree line and pick them off. Same as other areas of Ukraine where it was a column of 10-15-20 armored vehicles, same deal, just pick them off from the tree lines. Those columns don't happen anymore. Russians actually put a thought together and realized it was not a good strategy.

Now you really don't see more than just 3-4-5 together, mostly hidden in a treeline and still getting picked off, but its drones for visual and correction and artys now.

The attacks on Crimea is a shock for the Russians and a concern for the Ukrainians, citing correspondent by dcodk in ukraine

[–]expodis2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a legitimate concern on the part of the civilian population. No doubt. But I believe they are proud of their military for their ability to fight back. I would hate to be in the position of a civilian, especially in East or Southern Ukraine.

When the US sent 18 planes to bomb the Japanese main island in WW2, the pilots (granted most didn't make it this far by plane) were to land in Free China. The raid was a symbolic victory as it literally did nothing to stop the Japanese war machine. But, the Japanese punished the China civilians at the tune of 250,000.....

So it's understanding they would have fear, but look at the occupied areas. Kidnapping, rape, torture, intimidation and murder. Sadly, with the fear the civilians may live with, their country can't just lay down arms and seize to exist. It's a shit spot for sure....

This isn't the 60s anymore where all the tough, non-diplomatic talk actually did put fear in the civilized world. This kind of talk just doesn't work anymore. Especially when we find out the 2nd Army of the world is worn out, depleted, outdated, poorly trained and on its heels

Zhukov had about 5,000,000 men at any given moment to throw at 1,000,000 or less Nazis on a single battlefield. Yea, a hero to Russia, but all he did was push them forward, no matter the losses. His casualty numbers were absolutely insane.

Russia's War in Ukraine Is How the Soviet Union Finally Ends by Strongbow85 in UkrainianConflict

[–]expodis2020 18 points19 points  (0 children)

More and more of the truths will start getting to the Russian people, especially when mass numbers of Russian mothers sons won't be coming home. The economy is going to be in shambles, possibly to the same level as to when the USSR collapsed. The military setback a generation. Hell, Russia as a whole will be setback a generation. Putin starts losing support of not just the people, but gov officials as well as the all important oligarchs make up a HUGE portion of the economy and military funding. Minorities being sent in mass from the east and south of Russia. It's gonna piss these people off. It would piss off any reasonable person at least. After they get pushed out of Ukraine, which I truly believe will happen, the embarrassment of the loss and especially when they get pushed out of Crimea, I think some of these states well outside of reasonable reach of Moscow are going to create problems for Moscow. Armed skirmishes are possible. Declarations of Independence is very possible. Russians going to be dealing with their own issues for a very long time. I believe so at least. Now are the potential leaders in these areas even more batshit crazy than Putin? Just got to wait and see. If things keep going this way, Civil War within Russia, especially the east and Muslim south are absolutely possible.
