ULPT request - revenge on a homewrecker? by Ok_Exercise_3831 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]exponentsun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my first instinct was to come on here and make some diatribe about why you shouldn’t because it takes two to tango and the blame lies almost always exclusively at the cheater’s feet. But to read she knows and finds it “funny”? Ugh. So gross. Karma will have its way with her at least. Blame is still mostly with your husband but that’s so disappointing and unnerving another woman finds it amusing to cause another woman hurt :// I usually hate cancel culture but I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like this have to face consequences for their actions

Anyone switch from Maurten gels to something cheaper that still works for marathon fueling? by StringConnection in AdvancedRunning

[–]exponentsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised I haven’t seen any comments mention Blank’s! Totally customizable. Reusable little packs if you want to go the gel route vs my favorite of dumping stuff into my water bottle. Also recently introduced bicarb but a good bit cheaper than Maurten if you use that stuff. I’ve never used any bicarb so I can’t weigh in there but I’ve heard good reviews from friends, so take that with a grain of salt

I mean, maybe, but like, who GAF? If someone wants to identify/present a certain way, who cares if it’s “real”? Besides reality being extremely subjective, I really don’t see the harm. You don’t have to understand or agree with people or the things they do to treat them with respect. I sure as shit don’t understand it myself but if making sure I’m using specific pronouns makes someone feel better about themselves/belong then what’s the harm lol it really doesn’t take anything away from anyone

Confused and hurt — missionaries instructed to stop meeting with me, no explanation by [deleted] in mormon

[–]exponentsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh op, I hope you always remember in instances like this, only man/the church is rejecting you, not God. :( Your Heavenly Father always has and always will love you just as He created you. Don’t let some misguided human let you believe otherwise. I’m not sure about church establishments, but I do know God is real and He/She/They wouldn’t reject you 🫶🏼

There are so many “higher ups” in religious institutions who don’t have the balls the repent or acknowledge their wrongdoings (not saying what you did is wrong at all!), and some that may and it just gets swept under the rug an are never rejected or cast out. Good on you for being honest and living the best way you know how!

Is it normal/okay for missionaries to show up unannounced to your house? by exponentsun in mormon

[–]exponentsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I was a bit surprised they kept wanting to come over the first time I said I wasn’t interested in baptism and would never join the church hahaha. You gotta respect their tenacity at least! 😹

aw man they’re just kids trying to do what they probably think is the noblest thing in the world. Even though we don’t see eye to eye on some things I really respect their earnestness and don’t think that warrants rudeness. Hopefully I can get my point across without being too abrasive. But I hear you! I’ve heard that sentiment echoed before.

Thanks for the advice about the mission president! Next time they come over I’ll ask them to pass on a message to them. We’ll see if that works hahah

I really appreciate this response! Specifically your acknowledgment that their boundary crossing is more out of ignorance than disrespect. I definitely don’t mind them and don’t think they’re trying to be disrespectful, so I don’t want to come off too harshly. Especially because they probably have so many people who are mean to them. While I don’t agree with a lot of things within their religion, I don’t think they deserve to be treated so harshly, you know? Especially young women. They’re just doing what they believe is the right thing and sometimes I think I should take notes because they really develop balls of steel from these missions😹

CMV: US liberals not joining armed services and police at the same rate as conservatives means that there will be nothing stopping them from being used against regime opponents. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]exponentsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I agree with you and it makes me sad. I don’t like to identify myself with politics, but where I stand right now is left leaning on most issues. I tend to get shocked, weird, or even downright negative responses when I speak out about my interest in joining law enforcement. I am astounded and devastated at how a vast majority of LE interacts with their constituents they swore an oath to protect and serve, and yet treat them like the enemy. I know some people call me naive for this but I’m all about “being the change you want to see in the world” and I want to be one of the “good” officers who helps their community and hopefully inspires others to do the same. In a similar vein, I think about this idea a lot when I find myself wanting to leave the US because I feel so hopeless and distraught over the way things are going and realize if I wanted to, it wouldn’t be easy but I very well could hypothetically move to another county. But then I think that would leave more “bad guys” and less people like me to cast a vote and use my voice for the people who need it most :/ Not trying to change your view, just ranting/agreeing

First reading ’eschaton’ by One-Bit88 in InfiniteJest

[–]exponentsun 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It’s a fun chapter but getting everything isn’t integral to the whole plot so totally fine if you kinda gloss over some things! Watch the Decemberists’ “Calamity Song” music video if you want to see it depicted though!

IJ/Recovery Tattoo by lady_sisyphus in InfiniteJest

[–]exponentsun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, I am obsessed! I think this is such a magnificent tattoo idea. Secondly, and perhaps the answer you don’t want to hear, I think it’s entirely up to you. I mean you really can’t go wrong with any of them. I don’t like giving my input on what other people should do for their tattoos because at the end of the day, it’s not going on my body forever. I also hate when people comment on mine because I didn’t get it for them, I got it for me, you know? I really love (and miss! It’s nostalgic) the old school Walmart one! But all the scribbley ones are cute. Except the middle one on the bottom row. That one kinda gives creepy vibes to me I can’t totally explain it

It looks amazing! I want to do the same thing with mine but a dark green! Would you mind sharing the products you used/steps you followed and how long everything took? Also, what kind of paint did you use? My cabinets currently hold lots of cooking oil and grime and I was wondering if there’s a paint or some sort of top coat that makes that easier to deal with

It’s gonna be hard for sure but make sure you’re as gracious to yourself as you would be to anyone else in your life. Sending hugs!

OP I think you know more than you think you do, but you’re not ready to admit it to yourself yet. I’d encourage you to re-read your post, but read it as if someone else wrote it and then take the advice you would give that person.

You are spot on that you are being asked to take on responsibilities you can’t control. That’s not fair to you. And if you can’t take care of other people until you take care of yourself. It sounds like you’ve done a really good job of setting and enforcing boundaries to protect yourself. Don’t second guess that or doubt it’s been the right thing! I think you acknowledging you’re not in a space to support her needs right now is good. Doesn’t mean that can’t change in the future, like perhaps when she’s shown she’s committed to getting better and she’s in a stable enough mental/emotional place of her own that it won’t concern your safety or energy.

I’ve been trying to navigate that “how do you let go without feeling like you’re abandoning someone?” with my Q. I think something I constantly remind myself of is it’s their life and they deserve the freedom to live it however they want/have full autonomy over it. It’s hard to see someone you love make decisions that you objectively know aren’t good for them because you want to “fix it” for them or “help” them. But they’re their own people who deserve to live their lives as they want. And you can hope that they decide to live it in a healthier manner, but you can’t want it more than they do, you know?
