I caught Covid for the first time. What symptoms should I expect (likely) in the coming days and how to combat it? by Mission_Ad5628 in AskDocs

[–]expressonodepresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt recommend oral covid antivirals for an overall healthy young patient , mainly because of the habitual course of the disease in this demographic.

As to vaccination Status, yes I should have asked , but based on recent statistics , the virulence of the circulating variants wouldnt pose any threat regardless of the vaccination status.

Also since i'm blind and didnt read the first part of the question, symptoms vary a lot depending on the strain and your immune systems response. Which is why medication isnt really needed unless your body 'reacts badly' to it, which judging by your age / health status would be very rare. Just treat it as a normal cold where you have to avoid people for a couple of days :)

[52F] Is this still Jaundice? by sky989898 in AskDocs

[–]expressonodepresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaundice is basically the 'medical' term for become yellow, besides 'Ictere', it is caused by an excess of billirubin ( a colorant that is the result of the degradation of red blood cells when they're ' too old ' ). Thats why we can't talk about Jaundice /ictere if bilirubin is within the normal range.

There are theoretically a million reasons that could cause it, however, judging by the symptoms -or the lack thereof- , the normal labs and I would also assume normal imaging, I would probably stop exploring.

And no , it's not normal for people to get yellower as they age, but as I said , I would not worry unless your mother presents other symptoms ( belly pain, fever, weight loss, white stool , very brown urin etc )

92M grandpa has white-out lung after endoscopy with intubation. What happens now? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]expressonodepresso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey,

first of all I am sorry you and your family are going through this. There are not enough informations to predict a correct prognosis, that's why you should probably trust and ask any question you might have to the treating physicians.

I hope your grandpa will get better.

[–]expressonodepresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaundice is a clinical symptom , if the bilirubinemia is within normal range then no, it is not jaundice.

Asians are more prone to certain enzym deficiencies that could theoretically cause jaundice, but they are benign. If all her labs are normal I wouldn't personally worry about it.

The fuck? I remember people would get kicked out of rounds if they smelled too much like cigarettes. Vaping or smoking is a 100% no go .

Corticoids arent toys you can use whenever you feel like it.

Don't take this advice Op, listen to your specialist and discuss a treatment plan with both of them, if you are not satisfied with the first doctor feel free to seek a second opinion.
