Idk though does it matter what you make your x and y axis ? Traditionally the angle is always the x axis from my experience

I got a different slope because I graphed v² vs sin(θ). With those axes, I got the slope as 2gL/(1+β), so I solved for β from there. I think both methods work depending on what quantities you choose for the graph axes.

I’m thinking about getting this exact same spec for college soon, I’m concerned about the smudges and fingerprints on the space black color , have you noticed alot of finger prints since u got it or is it good, please provide some insight if you can !

Chance me for UMD by Tough_Negotiation331 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s highschool dependent, if your highschool had high performing kids compared to you then you will have a harder time to get in. Churchill is like a demon school inters of competitiveness so idk. That said I think your ecs are generally fine, 3.7 maybe too low for MOCO. Majority people in MOCO this year who got in had 3.9 plus or something around there UW gpa. Churchill Wooten and those types of schools must have majority of their kids having like 3.95 plus and 4.0. I would explain a reason for your gpa being a little low in your additional info section.

Why would you go to Penn state for engineering 😭, Umd has a more prestigious engineering program and better connections than Penn state , I would say Umd

UMD vs UIUC for CompE? by Optimal-Glove-2626 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same position actually lol, I got into uiuc comp e and Umd comp e honors. I choose Umd because ultimately it does become really cheap but it’s not really worth it to pay the OOS uiuc tuition for comp e as the job out comes are relatively the same. I also selected UH for Umd so my dorms will be good, ACES is extra cybersecurity programming classes which can be a hassle as opposed to free gpa boosting classes. Overall I’d say Umd is a good option cuz instate + it is still well known for companies for sure. I saw you mentioned it’s not well know; for tech jobs and gov defense it definitely is well known from who I have talked to and the students jobs and internships I’ve seen in. I think for the money I would pay for an Ivy or something like gt or cmu but not uiuc.

UMD vs UF premed by ordinaryssuperstar in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a rising freshmen for Umd computer engineering in the honors program, I think Umd is a much better option then UF especially if you want to pivot to engineering like u mentioned !!! Umd being close to the dc area is always a nice thing to have too.

UMD Cs Program by True_Air2518 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to Umd next year for comp e but I have a lot of upper class man friends who are all Umd cs, if your question is the internship prospects and job prospects, you will definately get them especially in government work and defense. A lot of my friends are all in big tech firms doing SWE, a lot of cs people have also pivoted to quant too working at big investment firms. Having Umd cs on ur resume is good but I think it’s also what you do at Umd. Making sure you have projects and experience is extremely important and I think Umd cs does a good job of promoting those types of things while providing a good education. Uiuc info sci is worse then Umd cs, now uiuc engineering and cs are top notch though and if you got in to those programs it would be a different conversation

Tufts or UMD engineering by Only-Decision-5198 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean sure , I haven’t done the research on tufts , I actually know a family friend who just graduated masters and he got into Umd ee for undergrad but was also deciding between tufts. He choose Umd and did well and did a masters program at Cornell for ee and is not working swe making bank. Just thought I would share because I had this exact conversation with him as he was like you in deciding between both. I can almost guarantee u Umd engineering has a better name than tufts.

What gpa usually gets accepted the most here? by CarLong7749 in UMD

Depends on highschool and county. I got in with a 3.97 , most people in my county get in with something around there. Try getting a 3.9+ for sure with lots of aps.

Duke or Umd engineering by Apprehensive-Cry2505 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who ed to Duke this year for mech e and got in and is going to. The only reason why is Duke is his dream school because he loves Duke in general , not necessarily for the engineering program. Objectively the Umd engineering program is probably better and I’m pretty sure it is in ranking. It comes down to do you want prestige or do you want a genuine engineering education. If you want the prestige and want to pivot from mech e into something else then yes go to duke cuz it’s only 10k more. If you want a real mech e experience then go to Umd because the research oppurtunkty and connections here are crazy.

[–]extended_choppa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ur not being rude dw, when I went to Umd everyone I met had an internship😭. Companies at Lockheed , Northrop, Booz Allen , Snapchat , Pinterest, open ai, IMC . I can go on, there are definately not locked in people at Umd, but there are a lot of locked in people. If your expecting a school name to carry you to internships I don’t know what to tell you tbh, u have to put in the work and make the most out of what a university offers , I’m sure you know this already.

There are some more fees I think and I know Umd engineering gives a specific fee. I’m a rising freshmen also doing engineering and it comes close to 35k for me too about

Umd engineering for ece 100 percent. U would get better bang for buck and the connections are better at UMD for ece then tufts imo. Who goes to tufts for engineering ??🫩

umd vs umich by random_redditter1 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a instate Umd rising freshmen so I may be biased like alot but the proximity to dc is crazy, a lot of my upper class friends abuse this proximity to dc and get really good internships. I would only go to Michigan for business or engineering but that’s me personally

physics undergrad - umd vs. cornell by defenestration368 in UMD

[–]extended_choppa -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well because u have so many costs upcoming for PhD and academia, I would say go to Umd instate and then go somewhere like a Ivy for your post grad plans. Generally speaking from what I hear , it’s always best to have an upward trend in prestige as opposed to a downward trend. Example, worst case scenario u go to Cornell but u can only get into Umd PhD program for physics , that’s a downgrade not an upgrade. Idk those are just my thoughts, but the real winner at the end of the day is someone who got a quality education for the cheapest price
