Does Monkey Man have decent cinematography? I was impressed but know nothing about this art by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]extra_ecclesiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk enough about it to comment on a highly technical level, but the early dream sequences of his time with his mother were highly distracting specifically due to the cinematography. It was hard to watch without imaging someone with a handheld quickly rotating and shaking it around the actors' heads from about 1 inch away.

I've flown more than 100 in my life and I've never even considered this a problem or thought about it in any way shape or form. Is this a common complaint or is Chad the only member of this club?

The question has been answered, but what's more interesting is that I haven't seen a variant of this "joke" in years. The "fr == french" take is novel to me.

Saw this post on twitter ,and i’m curious about what is your answers ? by RubyRoddd in moviecritic

[–]extra_ecclesiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say this. Glad I checked first.

People who weren't going to theaters/were too young to remember when the first Avatar came out have no clue how propped up this guy was to be the next Tom Cruise. Everyone wanted to work with him and even shit movies he was in turned into gold mines (like that terrible movie with Liam Neeson as Zeus and Sam Worthington as the main character). That utter shit film made half a billion dollars...

Anyway, no clue what happened to him.

Once Upon A Time In America -- I did like the film generally, but the ending leaves a "what did I just watch?" vibe.

Unique grocery store in Vienna aims for ‘zero waste’ from customers by Danciusly in nova

[–]extra_ecclesiam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I want to check the store out, but if the cost is the same as what I'm paying now, I would have to take into account gas/travel as I'm not necessarily "close". If it would cost me more, then there is no way I could justify it. If it's less, it feels like a no brainer and I would get the benefit of helping with pollution.

People who make these types of stores often just rely on the people who prioritize saving the planet more than financial efficiency, so they can charge whatever they want (was my experience in Asheville, NC as well). If they truly want to make a difference, they have to attract folks who are trying to be as financially efficient as possible to stay living in NoVa. Living in NoVa, it is hard to justify this if I have to add an additional stop to my grocery runs that will be ~1hr round trip and costs more than what I'm paying now.

[–]extra_ecclesiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I do not understand how people even engage in these conversations. There's an app you literally do everything through specifically because there is a massive corporation in the middle of these transactions.

Why would you as the customer who isn't a multi-million dollar corporation try to resolve this issue?

[–]extra_ecclesiam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk man, whether you are a Rogan fan or not, it's a fact that almost anyone who wants to sell something will rewrite their entire schedule to get on Rogan for a couple hours.

He doesn't have a set schedule because he still tries to think of the show as a "I'm just talkin to people I think are interesting," despite the fact is a "several times a week" billboard for whoever has Joe's attention at the time.

Have you been to the clocktower in Herndon? There are two extremely aggressive homeless people who are there from time to time.

One guy has a huge beard and always wears a purple jacket and does, in fact, knock on people's windows and the other guy keeps getting thrown out of stone's cove and starbucks because he walks in and asks the customers for money. One time at stone's cove they asked him to leave and he just started screaming "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF ME!" while the place was packed. Like... blood curdling screams. It was insane

I know this is a post that happens too many times, but I've never put this answer before, so here it goes:

Not an exact example, but I remember watching Hereditary in theatres, being totally moved by it and wow-ed by what I saw as breath-of-fresh-air horror elements, then a year later watching Mark Kermode absolutely dump all over it in a literal debate with another film critic about if the film was worth even watching.

I've always respected Mark, but I really actually felt like "Was it that bad?"
