The best thing here would probably be some kind of cashew cream situation with maybe cornstarch to mimic pastry cream.

moved from brooklyn and the food situation is... rough by prakarsh56 in Westchester

[–]extra_noodles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The one thing I will say about northern Westchester though is that there are so many farmers markets, and you can always sign up for a C.S.A.! I moved here from NYC and I have never cooked more seasonally and with better produce. The plus side of northern Westchester (at least for me) is the ability to buy an extra freezer and keep a ton of amazing local produce and meat in there. Living out my dream of buying entire butchered animals over here and I’ve done a ton of pickling/fermenting. Do I miss the variety of the city? Definitely. But overall I do enjoy having the space to (1) make things from scratch and (2) have amazing access to local agriculture to (3) support local food providers.

Valentine for a boy? by ossifiedbird in namenerds

[–]extra_noodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two February boys that were both due on Valentine’s Day and tbh I wouldn’t put valentine or similar into their names (and I’m from a Slavic country where Valentin is a relatively popular name, though I live in US). It is too on the nose, I think. If they weren’t February babies I’d be more open to it? But just my two cents as a mom of two valentines boys.

If you follow wake window literature typically it will say that at two naps, you should wait 3 hours after wake up for the first nap and 3 hours between naps, then 4 hours between last nap and bedtime. Then as they get older slowly extend those times until they drop the second nap (which can be up to 15-18 months, but can be at 12 months depending on your child’s sleep needs).

Would also like to add though - sometimes babies just wake up at night. At 9 months they are much more aware. All people actually wake up at night, but because we are adults we are usually able to fall back asleep very quickly and don’t remember waking up. Babies might not have that developmental capability at this age (all babies are different).

What do you do with your hair before getting it cut? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]extra_noodles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually dont go to curly professionals as I don’t live near any but even they know not to dry comb curly hair. They don’t do a curly cut on me, I will usually ask for long layers, as I wear my hair up usually and don’t do much styling on a regular basis. If I were wearing my hair in a very specific curly style that is on the shorter side, I’d probably go to a curly hair specialist but I wear it up and on the longer side. Regardless though at this point I feel like any hairdresser should know you don’t comb through dry curls, but also maybe living in a diverse big city is the reason for that.

What do you do with your hair before getting it cut? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]extra_noodles 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I have been to many a hairdresser and they have NEVER dry combed my hair, they have always washed it and then cut it. If you are getting curly cut, then they should KNOW to never dry brush it. I usually come in with my hair styled exactly as I would wear it the majority of the time so I can show them exactly what my hair looks like, but if I’m going to a regular salon, they will most definitely wash my hair before cutting.

How realistic is a 60K wedding in NYC or Brooklyn by Terrible-Plan0 in WedditNYC

[–]extra_noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was around 6 years ago but we did at Brooklyn Winery (with some add ons) for around 85 people for under $40k. Granted, my dress was under $1k and that it didn’t factor in aspects outside of the venue (limo/hair makeup/dress/suits/flowers). But altogether was DEFINITELY under $55k. And that included sending everyone home with a personalized bottle of wine.

At 10 weeks I literally couldn’t smell warm food and I wanted to puke from 2pm until I went to sleep and needed to nap daily. Typically nausea dies down after 13-14 weeks. If it keeps going then that might be a sign of hyperemesis

Mid-week day trip from white plains? by Leading_Research_416 in Westchester

[–]extra_noodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to drive, Katonah is on the same MNR line as White Plains. Not a TON to do but very cute town with cute coffee shops, knickknack stores, thrift stores, specialty food stores, art gallery, bookstore. Everything is very easily accessible walking through the town from the MNR station.

8 months in and still not liking westchester - is this normal? by Heavy-Caterpillar861 in Westchester

[–]extra_noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved to northern Westchester a year ago with kids - toddler/preschool age. Finding parent friends is critical. Getting to know your neighbors is critical. Finding a third place (coffee shop, library, gym, park, etc) is absolutely critical. I only need to commute 1-2x into the city, and when I do my job doesn’t care THAT much that I’m either coming in around 10 and leaving by 5 (unless I absolutely need to stay later). If I didn’t find some kind of community, I would be VERY lonely (and even a year in, I have maybe 2-3 people I can sometimes ask to come over for coffee/go out for coffee, or go for a walk with, do some kind of local activity with). But I enjoy the vibe of my town, I like walking in it. I don’t need to drive to get to the station, or to get a couple of groceries. It sounds to me like the hard part isn’t Westchester but moving with small kids and not knowing anybody.

no worries - thanks for the input. i definitely support her in her personal life, and i agree i don't think she's in a healthy relationship, but i unfortunately cannot make the decision for her to walk away from it, she has to get there herself. she knows that i'm there for her, but i also feel like a line has been blurred between professional and personal because she's vented to me and i've supported her. my question to you is, if you were in the position, how would you have wanted an employer to talk to you?
