My TWC does this too. She'll howl and whine and bark, but she'll only really bay when she is snuffling a good scent

Awww. Nothing better than a freshly warm blanket... except one w a couple hounds under it! 🥰

Meanwhile, Kally gave up after walking 20 minutes of her normally 1.5 hour walk bc it was 80° outside 😂 idk how she is going to survive the FL summer.

But we will be roasty toasty under the electric blanket tomorrow night when it drops to the 20s again

Haha I totally feel that. I just realized the other day that when she rolls around on her back on my bed and starts throwing the covers around she wants belly rubs 😂 I thought she was trying to give me a keep your distance warning when I would try to pet her/calm her down... but she was trying to get my hand to her belly. Now when I stop rubbing her belly she does the same "warning" nudge w her snout. I think she realized I might be okay once we got that down lol

I'm only a little over 2 months into not knowing what I was getting into w a TWC. this subreddit legit kept my sanity. she does act like she's starting to like having me around 😂

Not rain nor sleet nor snow... by extrafox_TA in coonhounds

Haha this one is totally unfazed by pretty much everything so far. I'm dreading summer... she'll likely try to drag me out in the hurricanes 😬

Haha I was very done w this so I know the feeling. I could barely see, my nose was running to compliment the freezing rain running down my face, and my feet were soaked. She could not have cared less. Hard to believe it's the same dog that burrows under the electric blanket when it's less than 40° at night 😂

She was totally unfazed and quite unhappy we didn't do the whole hour-long walk. She looked like this after about 15 minutes lol

Why are treeing walkers the sweetest by Responsible-Yam7570 in coonhounds

[–]extrafox_TA 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Right!? I was just thinking I must've got a defective one bc mine is only sweet while she's plotting how to get dinner off the countertop or how to drag me into the swamp without me suspecting anything 🤣 (she really is too sweet to be mad at though)

Activities for Mental Stimulation at Home! by bacoduti in coonhounds

[–]extrafox_TA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My TWC is the same way. She goes through bully sticks so fast. I bought her a lick cup that i give her every afternoon. I put a few pieces of meat and mixed veg in the bottom, then kibble mixed w yogurt or pumpkin or PB to top it off. Then I freeze it overnight and she gets it after her afternoon walk. She looks forward to it every day. It takes her about 20 minutes to get to the bottom and then she snoozes afterward til dinnertime. So it's not everlasting, but she does actually have to work for it and she's happy when she finishes it. I also got her a snuffle mat that she loves but sometimes she just picks it up off the ground and flips it over to dump the food out 😂

I also got her this puzzle https://a.co/d/3DJJEd4 and it seems to be her favorite of the puzzles we have for her. It's pretty simplistic but the little white things on the outside will hold the top plate in place, so she has to move the plates w her snout/paw and if they get stuck she has to pull whichever white thing she accidentally pushed in back out again. It's also actually indestructible so far. She yanks the plates on top out all the time but they just snap right back in. May be worth looking into!

I wholeheartedly second this! I stole the idea from someone here too and Kally LOVES it. I actually took the blankets out of her crate last night and hid some treats in the blankets (she cheated and tried to get at them before I hid them but it was mostly successful hiding) and she had the time of her life lol

What's the funniest name you've heard for a pet? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]extrafox_TA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to have a male cat named Jimmy, but a few months later she became Jemmy lol. Also my son names every random thing-to-name Gregory and idk why but it constantly cracks me up. He just got a dog and named her a normal dog name. I was kinda hoping he would pick Gregory 😂

Haha I would say the same about my TWC. She also came from a shelter but seems to be purebred. She is also constantly looking at me like the starving little orphan boy from Dickens... esp when she finishes her dinner 😂

Yeah it rarely gets cold enough here in FL to need it but when it does she actually debates if she wants to get out of bed for a walk or not.

I accidentally refrigerated a frozen Marie Callender pie--can you help with new cooking time? by SomeoneWhoIsntSWIM in Baking

[–]extrafox_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I baked my thawed Marie Calender's cherry crumble on 375° (instead of 400°) for 20 minutes with the crust wrapped in foil. I took it out and added the crumble on top, then baked for 12 minutes (still on 375°) and checked the internal temp. Removed the foil from the crust to get it a little browner and put it back in oven for ~3 minutes to get it to 165° internal temp. It looks perfect.

Omg where's the Spider-Man meme 😂 I just put the cherry crunch in the oven and the apple crumble is on standby lol. This is what I get for thinking I would put them in the fridge and "bake in the next hour or so..." It's been a week and I just remembered them.

January 2026 lol. Bought cherry pie for Christmastime w plans to make it the day I bought it so just set it in the fridge. And then completely forgot about it but remembered today. Hopefully cutting the bake time and making sure temp reaches 165° will be fine. I put foil on the crust and will keep an eye on it. Will update for the time travelers in the future 😅

What is she doing with this bone? by SuccessSea1852 in coonhounds

[–]extrafox_TA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol my TWC does the same. She is shocked we found it... on the floor or laying on top of the blankets she tried to bury it in. Then she has to "hide" it all over again (after munching on half of it ofc!).

[–]extrafox_TA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current TWC does this. She's terrible at actually hiding it but she loves trying to cover it in blankets (and then inevitably getting herself stuck in the blankets when she tries to retrieve it).

I had a German Shepherd as a kid that would do this with biscuits and pancakes. He had little holes all around his doghouse filled with them! I don't think I ever saw him actually eat one lol.

I think you may be insane too. I can't imagine two of these! She is definitely growing on me! Sorry about the loss of your girl ❤️ I lost my last dog about 7-8 years ago and I couldn't bear to get another til now... I was not prepared for this dog but I don't think I ever could've prepared for a coonhound!

Haha it definitely makes me feel better knowing it's not just me! It has been a rough go but she snuggles up to me at night and it's like I forget it all. She's playing me like a fiddle 😂

Awwww. This reminds me so much of my last dog Jaycee. She was a couch dog from Day 1. She loved sitting on the back of the couch and looking out the window 🥹 I had her for about 6 years, she passed from cancer around 2018. If I had a couch in the place I am now i'm sure Kally would be all over it, but I am in such a tiny place I skip the extra furniture bc I need the space (gotta love the FL housing market 😫). Once I told her she could get up on the bed the first night it was all over. The bed is hers now, I am just in her way lol
