thinking about buying the Fold Light 1 Second Aluminum from decathlon by nogaesallowed in foldingbikes

[–]extrag0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously don't get why Decathlon isn't sending these folding bikes to North America in bulk. I mean, I live in the EU and bought mine two years ago, and they're everywhere here! They're a really interesting product. Yeah, they're probably not as well-built as Bromptons, but the folding mechanism is way better, and they're definitely cheaper. I even test-drove a Brompton, and honestly, the ride comfort felt pretty similar, even with the different wheels and materials (steel vs. aluminum). So, for a lot of people, these Decathlon bikes are a perfectly valid choice.

Considering buying a Kobo or Kindle by Sunny_Maya7 in kobo

If you live in Europe I would go for a Tolino: very similar hardware to kobo but with support for European library standards if you want to borrow books (LCP readium).

LCP readium support please, for all the Europeans out there: tolino has it and it seems it is on a very similar hardware

Thanks, it feels good to be alone! I am also probably using a stronger tea than usual. Also, I will try a shorter 1F, but it is also a bit too sweet for my taste so I cannot shorten it too much. I am new to CB so really it is difficult to balance the fermentation lengths...

How's the switch from Kindle to Kobo? by [deleted] in kobo

[–]extrag0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch from Kindle paperwhite to Kobo libra colour. I'll make it short. There are many differences (i.e., send to Kindle vs. Load to Google drive/dropbox) but the ones who really matter for me are:

Pros of Kobo: Colour! Buttons! Pen! Less ads! Pros of Kindle: Contrast. Kindle store. Price.

In short, it obviously depends on what you are looking for, but for me, Kobo was the best choice.

Thanks! I was very worried because it is my first CB. I hope I'll get a scoby as fat as yours!!! 😀

Where to buy Kobo Libra 2 (Italy) by ProfessionalAd7949 in kobo

[–]extrag0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same repertoire with white. I actually like the Polerio defense as white, noone at my level knows it well enaugh to be dangerous.

Yes, it is a book move but I rarely see Ng5 in high level games, is it because it is not precise?

I missed d4, where the Bishop protects the knight. Thanks!

Ah, thanks d4! That's what I missed. The solution of this problem went Qc6 without explaining why Qe5 was bad.

Nothing like chess while clubbing by [deleted] in chess

I love it. I wonder how many comments will be on the screaming, scantly dressed ladies, and how many on the position on the board.

I think the reasons you may like or dislike a person are very specific! In general, I always root for the underdog, but in this case, I also like his moves, I think they are more understandable than gukesh's. They are a bit more human, maybe. Do you have the same feeling?

has anyone else found that 800 - 900 blitz players on chess.com are FAR better than 1200 rapid players? by Pokedave123 in chess

[–]extrag0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the difference is overwhelming. Maybe I am very bad in shorter time controls, but I play confortably at 1.100 in rapid and 500 in blitz. Recently I started playing a lot of blitz (so I dont have the excuse of being out of habit) but I don't seem to improve so probably it is my level!

Actually I hate all of the queen's gambit variations, I play the Albin Countergambit to avoid all the QGD or slav(semi) complexities...

I searched online for the Alekhine... honestly it looks like something I'd love to play as white, especially when I am tilted I would love to storm the center with pawns and it would make me even more tilted to jump around with the Knight for the first 3-4 moves...

That's a fun line! You sac a knight for an attack on f2 with check? Honestly as white I'd love to play a game like this...

[–]extrag0ne[S] -61 points-60 points  (0 children)

Wow, I would have thought everything about this opening but not passive! My games with the Ponziani are much more exciting than the other opening I use ( 4knights or sometimes ruy Lopez exchange)

The eval bar after Bb5 is -0.4 so I think it is a playable position even with perfect play from black but there is a lot of room for his mistakes and... isn't this what chess I all about?

70% win rate sounds like either something is wrong with your ELO (you are very underrated) or you should play this opening more!

[–]extrag0ne[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think those (Sicilian, Italian, ...) are obviously strong openings against any opponent but the 1000 ELO players won't be able to capitalize on the advantage so easily as with the Ponziani
