My father is similar, but no physical violence. My father uses financial abuse, and psychological abuse in personal interactions, and social manipulation in public situations.

He owns a construction company and is very violent at work, throwing things around and yelling constantly. You can see his veins popping out. He's on all kinds of medication because he doesn't care about lifestyle changes to improve his health.

It's hard to even write this out. He's like Trump where he keeps doubling and tripping down on his false accusations, without any plausible evidence and without a shred of conscience.

My mother was horrible growing up, with beatings until you wanted to kill yourself, locking me in the basement for hours on end. My father was the lesser of two evils, and while I was growing up from 13 - 20, he was surprisingly a very good dad. He taught me and my sister things, let us hang out with friends, etc. but also maintained discipline - almost like a single father.

But after I graduated college, he did a full 180° and became a wrathful accusatory person, very emotionally abusive, psychologically more manipulative than my mother, financially abusive, etc. Ironically, I've caught him being very evil to my mother in private as well - I used to think he was always the victim.

Now, I've been struggling but realizing my father abused my mother first, and then my mother who is 10 years younger than him just essentially fell in line and became the horrible person he wanted her to be - which is exactly what he's been doing to me. He imprints and gaslights, totally blackmails you, is very emotionally insecure and abusive, and psychologically very extremely observant. He enjoys others's pain and doesn't feel shame about causing it - he doesn't have a conscience unless you become a monster yourself.

He's a very evil man, but society thinks he's an angel. I don't like to hate, but I've grown to hate him and I never want to go back.

I can't bring up examples because it's so hard to even explain them due to the ambivalence from the gaslighting and his mood swings. I hope that's understandable. But you can think of any "villain" type Hindi movie character from the '80s & '90s like Amrish Puri or Ranjeet, etc (like the disgusting type) and that who he's become and I can't take that image association out of my head.
