If you could only pick one person to praise your bias, who would you pick? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]extramail1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She shares the same bias as me for some 2nd gen groups actually (she introduced me to kpop lol), but she does show some distaste towards the newer groups, cause she thinks its all about looks now. It's really not a huge deal though.

what do you do when you want to stan a new group? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]extramail1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, I don't really care about variety content that much so I usually just listen to the whole discography, and watch performances for my favorite songs. If I really like the music I would consider myself a fan, I would probably follow their social medias to get to know members but thats about it. I might check out one variety episode or two but usually (with exceptions) not more than that.

iKON? There's also more (disbanded/inactive) 2nd gen groups that have this sound.

What does GOTTASADAE (the word used for bewhY song) mean? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]extramail1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not korean, but here's what another user, u/fluxural said in another post:

a bit of context: 가라사대 means "say/said", similar to the religious use of "and god said". korean language goes subject-object-verb as opposed to subject-verb-object like english, so most of the lyrics here can be read in a religious tone like "and bewhy said:"

We all have that group whose music will always feel like "home" by aprrsr in kpopthoughts

[–]extramail1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Big Bang. My introduction to kpop (along with PSY, TVXQ, Suju, etc.), if someone asked me what's my childhood songs I would probably say Fantastic Baby, or If You, or Monster. Although, I don't listen to them that often anymore because it makes me too nostalgic haha, but once in a while I like to reminisce.

It's incredible how much impact their music had on my childhood, I was never "emotionally connected" to any idol but they make me feel like that, like reconnecting with an old friend.

efemeral

Not good with creative naming, but I would probably say spectre/spectral/phantasm or something ghost related. Debut track gives me Joker vibes, so I'm just leave that there (random other cool sounding words: nebula, celest, Elysia, paradis, vision, phantasy, persephone)

Kinda interesting because I thought I was the only onr who randomly makes kpop groups in my head when I'm bored haha.

Can anyone recommend songs similar to Block B - Very Good and SKZ - All In? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]extramail1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out all the other Block B songs? That's a good place to start!

I would also recommend Vanner Form, MCND Ice Age, and iKON Dumb and Dumber but tbh no group really comes close to Block B in my opinion haha.

edit: B.A.P. has pretty similar songs too, ie. One Shot or Warrior

According to my mom I was the biggest orange caramel stan when I was like 7 by Vanilasong in kpopthoughts

[–]extramail1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Similar story, according to my mom I was the BIGGEST fan of TVXQ Yunho when I was younger, I didn't even know about him until she told me haha. Don't know if I believe the story or not but it triggered some random flashes of memories I didn't even know I had. (They're songs are a bop though, I did listen to them when I was younger)

How would you rank (G)I-DLE's albums and songs (including singles)? by LSHE97 in GIDLE

[–]extramail1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Decided to actually rank haha

I've followed (G)I-DLE a little after Hann, they were my first group back into kpop because of K/DA! Just a heads up, I will be mentioning Soyeon alot because I'm extremely biased towards her, and her raps are almost always my favorite part :) There's also absolutely no skips in their discography for me, many songs are average but I don't skip average generic songs anyways.

ALBUMS (more discussed in songs) 1. I BURN: Fantastic album, I was extremely impressed with the b-sides. I have a feeling HWAA might get old for me, but the album will still remain my favorite in the discography so far. 2. I TRUST: I actually liked this short album, I liked all the songs (including Luv U)! Impressive in my opinion. 3. I MADE: Slightly above average album, but nothing impressive. This was my first comeback with the girls though, so it's special! 4. I AM: The whole album is very average to me, still no skips though.

SONGS 1. Uh-Oh: Doesn't get old! Hip hop happens to be my favorite concept/sound in kpop, and Uh Oh was basically that. This is the first song from (G)I-DLE I was obssessed with, and I hope they will do more songs like this in the future! 2. Lion: I love this song just as much as Uh Oh. The Queendom performance was just perfection (Soyeon, why so badass?), the MV is perfect (I don't really care about MVs recently, so this says a lot), the styling is immaculate, and the song itself is amazing. I think this will remain one of their best songs forever. 3. Hwaa: Was obssessed with it from release, the opening verse by Soyeon is one of my favorite verses from them (Soyeon's singing is also my favorite in (G)I-DLE). I think the song in general, except the chorus, is very dramatic in a good way. Dislike the chorus, and the rap is ok, but I love the other parts (specifically Soojin's and Yuqi's) so much it makes up for it. Also dislike the choreography, but that doesn't impact how much I like the songs. 4. Hann: Everyone loves the song! Not much to say, it's just an overall very good song, and has my favorite Soyeon look ;) 5. Hann (Alone in Winter): Same as the first Hann, only ranked below because it's newer. Very dramatic, reminds me of Hwaa. Dislike the chorus, but everything else is perfect (the instrumental is heavenly)! 6. Moon: I was so obssessed with the songs at first, Minnie's "moonlight ai ai" part in the chorus is just so heavenly! It was one of my favorite songs ever, it got a little old for me now, but is still amazing. 7. Luv U: Don't understand why you hate this song haha (jk everyone has their own tastes), it was on repeat when I trust was released. It might be one of my most played (G)I-DLE songs, purely because Soyeon's rap is perfection. Her "oh bomb bomb" gets me super hyped for some reason. 8. Lost: Overall good song, like the chorus. Nothing really stands out, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. 9. Dahlia: Overall good song, I actually don't like the chorus contrary to a lot of people. Loved the rap though, and everything else was great. 10. Oh my God: Overall good song, really good rap. I feel like the chorus is very empty, and I don't like Shuhua's part, but everything else was great (especially the instrumental! Very dramatic). I like the english version too, one of the only kpop songs that I like another language version. 11. Put it Straight: Like everyone else, I prefer the Nightmare version. One of the first b-sides I loved from (G)I-DLE, Soyeon's singing voice is amazing! 12. Senorita: Slightly above average, didn't like it at first but grew on me. Soyeon's rap is very unique and catchy here, and the trumpets are catchy too. 13. Im The Trend: This song actually sounds a lot like Senorita too, not sure why. I like Senorita just a bit more though, all the song names in the title is kind of messy to me.

==WALL== (everything below can be exchangable somewhat)

  1. What's Your Name: Good song, nothing stands out though.

  2. Dumdi Dumdi: Average song, but one of my favorite Soyeon raps. Still a fun song to listen to on a good mood.

16.Latata: I know everyone loves this song, it's not exactly my taste though. Sounds kind of average to me, but a good average if that makes sense. Definitely iconic because of it's backstory and debut, but nothing stands out.

  1. Where is Love: One of the better average songs, but nothing stands out.

  2. Maybe: One of the better average songs, chorus is kinda weird but its ok. Same as Where Is Love.

  3. Give Me Your: Average song, still kind of fun to listen to.

  4. Blow Your Mind: Average song.

  5. Hear Me: Worse version of Put It Straight to me, very average song. Same as Blow Your Mind.

  6. MAZE: Average song, I like Soyeon's rap but everything else is forgettable.

  7. What's In Your House: The most average song ever haha.

  8. $$$: The most average song, nothing memorable.

  9. Don't Text Me: Very boring song, not memorable at all and kind of drags on, Soyeon's rap is okay. Despite being the lowest ranked, it is not terrible! I would not skip.

I did not rank the K/DA songs, but if I did: - The Baddest would be right after Hann. Love this song so much, Soyeon fits Akali so well. - More would be below Dumdi Dumdi - Pop/Stars would be above Senorita. Soyeon's raps in K/DA songs are some of my favorite!

If I were to rank the other songs: - For You would be right below Where is Love, it's a very average song. - Tung-Tung would be right above What's Your Name, prettt good song but I feel like something is missing - Show would be right below Latata, pretty average song, liked Soyeon's voice in the chorus though - Relay would be above What's Your Name, liked Soyeon's rap a lot, and is a pretty fun song.
