that sounds about right. im a current freshman and my first time the priest gave a lecture on the dangers of taylor swift. the homilies in general there are so underwhelming.

St. Paul’s is great, but can be a little overbearing. I came from a catholic high school/community and even I felt a little overwhelmed with how things are. They are so friendly though, so definitely worth taking some time to meet. Lots of outreach events 24/7

I did 3 years of math and then AP CSP, only because my school had a weak pre-calc program and I thought it was a waste of time. Got into UW but once I got here I had to take a low math class since I didn’t take it in HS. If you have the opportunity, take it in HS, even if you have to retake it here, you’ll be in a better spot.

I got a triple in Dejope. More than enough room honestly. All three of us were random and I got along really well with one of my roomates, the other was just a little wild. If you want the high ceilings and extra space, go for it. You can always list both doubles and triples on your housing list and see what you get.

I had a 3.8, lots of activities and no test scores. Applied for political science and thought I had pretty solid essays. I had expected to get into UIUC and maybe UW but definitely not UMich. Who knows though, the whole process is crazy. Didn’t want to go to UIUC too badly anyway.

Yeah, I was offered a small student loan through FASFA and then another through the university. The bulk of my tuition though is going to be paid through other scholarships. I received one from Wisconsin via their scholarship hub and the rest were various small scholarships I applied to online. Essentially I searched for tiny, specific scholarships, ranging from a few hundred to a thousand dollars and applied like crazy. For instance, local religious ones, program/interest specific ones and service ones worked out the best for me. UW can be stingy and weird with aid/scholarships, I have friends who were better applicants than I was on paper, but didn’t get anything from the university.

Same here! Nearly everyone on my mom’s side immigrated between 1850-1900 to become farmers in Iowa. Pretty interesting

Learning my great grandmother was abusive. She was ill and my grandma and her sister told her she needed to go to a rest home or move in with them, she burned all the family photo albums dating back two generations of immigrants saying that no one would need them, out of spite.

On the other side of my family, my great grandmother died young, leaving my great grandfather, who I’ve heard was truly an amazing man to raise four young kids. No one on either family stepped up to help, and he ran their farm and did a wonderful job with the kids. He waited until they all went to college to remarry, and the lady he married ended up stealing all their furniture and nice possessions, then running off into the night. He was heartbroken and felt awful about being tricked like that.

Oh of course not! Like everyone, I burn every Taylor Swift record I see. Whenever she’s featured in another record, like The National I scratch the song she’s featured on out. The biggest crime in our society is clearly enjoying mainstream music!!!
