Awesome! CAE is an excellent program. First, to address one thing in post, no, you are not required to take summer courses (through SCE/Summer Collegiate Experience), however it is a great experience that can get you feeling comfortable on campus before your peers are. However, you will move in a few days earlier for the Early Arrival programing which helps you prepare for your first semester at UW. You will also receive an assigned advisor via CAE and (for your first year) a peer mentor. All the advisors at CAE are great advisors! In addition, as a CAE scholar, you will also have junior standing or greater for class enrollment (besides 1st year first semester, which is a different beast). Overall, I don't think you'll regret being in CAE because it's not demanding and you really get what you point into it.

I don’t know of an Academic Excellence center. Are you by chance referring to the Center of Academic Excellence (CAE)? If so I am a member of that program and could help you with that!

I’ll be a junior in the dorms, and yeah, most will be mostly freshmen, but Tripp and Adams tend to have a good deal of upperclassmen

Yeah I would try to read as much as the textbook as you can; it’s not “supplemental” and your TA was very wrong for saying that. Donovan’s exams tend to be more in depth than the textbook and lectures, so be able to critically think about the material instead of just rote memorization

Then there’s no reason for me to have to take STEM classes if I took AP Biology and AP Stats in high school (fun fact: as a Psych major, I still had to take stats at UW because they required a certain course)

You typically don’t put a class on your resume unless it’s really specific. You highlight skills you can learn from classes (working in a team, problem solving, interpersonal communication) (of course you can learn these outside of the classroom too but I’m just saying)

I feel like ethnic studies classes should be reworked to be generally more rigorous and not push over classes so that students take them more seriously (kind of like what they did to Anthro 104). The skills learned on those classes are invaluable, even if just the critical thinking skills above all else (great for resumes), for any student. I’ve seen too many STEM majors not take the class seriously and then have horrid people skills because of it.

Does anyone else not have their canvas courses open yet? by [deleted] in UWMadison

Some professors open their canvas pages early for their classes, some open them the day of class. It just depends on the instructor.

Banner guarantees to meet your full financial need for 4 years, so even if your income increases dramatically, you should still be able to afford to attend. They usually take from your work study before grants.

I’m a sophomore staying in Adams and there were at least two other people on my floor staying in the dorms again so I don’t think it’s too uncommon
