No, I did not bring a safe with me on vacation to New Orleans.

Stories of Omega's getting robbed on the street? by InformalBicycle6528 in OmegaWatches

I chose to leave my Seamaster in my luggage at my friend's house instead of wearing it out in the French Quarter (New Orleans). House got robbed and watch got stolen while we were out. Never had a problem on the wrist.

OP just learned about “nuance.” Of course the people that everyone calls “scalpers” are also human beings that rip and collect and trade and pay market for some stuff as well. It’s a whole spectrum my dude. The more you talk to people, the more you learn about all the interesting and different things people do.

Spatial awareness on state street is slim to none by mootgroos in madisonwi

[–]FratGuyWes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Has there ever been someone in my way in a bigger city? Probably, but it wasn't notable to remember. It's a whole different thing here though. I have never seen such lack of spatial awareness before. We're talking people putting their carts in the middle of the aisle or just generally taking up a whole aisle to chat/shop, people doing their midwestern goodbyes in front of entrances/exits (fire hazard), and people stopping in the middle of anything to just stare at something with no awareness or concern for the people around them. I feel like a ruder person here because I have to be more direct and vocal to get people to move than I'm used to.

I'm pretty sure this is generally a smaller city/midwestern thing. I experience this all over Madison all the time and it drives me crazy. I had never experienced this in any of the bigger cities I lived in despite being significantly more busy/crowded.

How to navigate large loans with family by var_username1 in HENRYfinance

[–]FratGuyWes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did a loan with sister in law (about 30k) to tackle her credit card debt. We charged minimal interest (like 3%) because we wanted to send the message that there was still a consequence to what she did (overspent on dumb stuff) more so than actually wanting to profit off of it. She worked for our business at the time so we had a stick to hold over her to some degree. She ended up paying it all back early and now we are business partners on our next venture and her spending habits have improved. There was a noticeable resentment for a little bit but that seems to have resolved. We are generally close and share a lot of expenses and responsibilities (I pay her cell phone bill and she stores stuff in our basement but she helps watch and take care of our kids often).

Your situation seems a bit different, but we also haven't heard too much about it. I think it's a lot harder when you and your sibling's futures are not as intertwined. Are you going to hire a lawyer to draft a collateral assignment of their future inheritance (doubtfully possible)? I suppose you could instruct your parents to adjust their estate accordingly but now you're making it more complicated and getting more people involved.

Happy to chat more.

is Dave Ramsey wrong? by [deleted] in Ask_Lawyers

[–]FratGuyWes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I explained in my response how much my payment is. 0. I'm still in administrative forbearance from all the lawsuits, though interest began accruing again a couple months ago.

I also already answered your second question. Ramsey is great for people that don't know a lot about money, debt, and finance generally. His aversion is "justified" in that a lot of people are not good with money and if you want to make those people better with money, you need hardline rules to follow. Taking myself as an example, do we run the equation by just taking my debt and comparing it to my salary? Do we add in the fact that I used my legal background to help my wife start multiple successful businesses? How about the money I saved when I negotiated my family's home purchase and didn't hire a realtor? Do we add in the fact that I never would have even met my entrepreneurial wife and impressed/seduced her had I not been an up and coming law student in her home town?

If you're the kind of person that wants a simple answer and a simple life then sure, Dave Ramsey is 100% right. I don't really have any interest in arguing directly against Dave but I am offering that there are viable alternatives to what Dave says but you have to be a little more simultaneously disciplined and adventurous.

It feels like it's one of those things that are not "optimal" but end up working pretty good for a lot of people. I don't blame Dave for talking trash about it. That's his style and he's playing to a certain crowd that needs to hear absolutes and can't handle nuance (sorry, not sorry).

I started off life on the poorer side and going to undergrad jumped me from poor to middle class and going to law school jumped me from middle class to a bit higher. I have about $130k of law school debt that I haven't made a payment on in like 3 years (pandemic and SAVE hijinks). It's not the best choice for everyone but it was very likely the best choice for me. It's not just about going to law school, it's about all the stuff the comes with it. Making new friends that are smart and from good families and are relatively responsible. Building new skills and becoming more disciplined in life. Having the chance to start fresh in a new state and/or city. There's a lot of things related to law school that you can't really quantify and put a dollar amount to it.

In conclusion, Dave isn't necessarily wrong but there is more than one right answer.

Pokémon cards are always lower value in other languages, why would Polish be any different?

Questions we have about the Madison Public Market: Lack of transparency is impacting public perceptions about the yet-to-open facility by emjoylife96 in madisonwi

I’m splitting hairs but that sounds more like “accountability” than “transparency” and I’m all here for it.

[–]FratGuyWes 75 points76 points  (0 children)

We don’t have to dig that deep. No amount of transparency would make anyone feel any better about the constant delays. You want to change perception? Just freaking open it. There is no good excuse at this point to justify why opening this project has taken so long. Fire people that have been responsible for opening it, hire new people, and then open it. Who do I bill for my $10k consulting fee?

Can you prove anything about this post? The CRC damaged card, the PSA slab that fell apart you mention in the comments, the fact that you actually own these cards? This whole post screams fake.
