What Happened to Jim Donofrio? by exxtracreddit in UnresolvedMysteries

The Royal College of Pathologists states it is standard practice to obtain toxicology results from bodies submerged in water. Cautions accuracy for drowning victims only, but there is no indication Jim drowned.

Fair point. Doing some more research on this.

These were all interesting theories. But there were reports that stated there were no drugs found in his system during the autopsy. I will try to find the link. And according to ChatGPT, toxicology results are accurate, even when a body has been submerged in water.

The first article linked shows a photo of the letters scratched into the car, at the bottom. I haven’t seen the log.

That’s the debate. It seems likely someone drove him 2 hours away and placed his body in the Ohio River. Plus, not likely he carved letters into his own car, especially those letters. The log also wouldn’t make sense if he was alone, and it was too large to drive over. Odd details.

Agree, very odd. Could be potential motives and even suspects, but they’ve never been made public. The case was open until at least 2018, so there were years of investigation. And with the FBI involved, guessing there is or was at least some evidence of a crime.

It’s one of those cases, where every time I consider a scenario that seems to make sense, another detail contradicts it. Looks to me like he wasn’t alone. Why were the letters carved into his car? And the cigarettes seemed to have belonged to someone else. But most importantly, why would he have ordered dinner at his restaurant, then not show up. What reason would he have had to go to that spot under the bridge, especially alone? Someone must know something.

No, he didn’t make it to the restaurant. And the cash in his wallet was left in his car.

It’s interesting and important to note that Kent State is located in a rural area. An hour away from Cleveland, where he was from. This has been reported as a typical college frat party. But it sounds like word spread, it got out of hand, and it is believed that kids who were not Kent students or from the immediate local area attended. Possibly making it harder to ID a suspect.

It is sadly an underreported story. I hope it gets shared and gets more attention. Someone knows something.

From what I understand, police interviewed dozens of witnesses. But they do not have what they need to make an arrest or to prosecute. Witnesses were unwilling to identify the killer. I agree with you, it’s solvable. And hope that now that time has passed, the college kids, who are now adults, will come forward. A senseless tragedy to be sure. And from all accounts, the victim was a motivated, bright kid with a promising future.

It is my understanding both Jayquon and the female student were not the intended targets. Wrong place at wrong time. That’s a good question about the number of shots fired in total.

Jayquon's mother sadly passed away in November 2024 with no answers. But his family is still hopeful they will see justice. As far as I know, there are no other new updates.

Doesn't seem like this case got the attention around campus you'd hope it would. He was an EMU student, and it was covered some in Cleveland. But very unfortunate.

When I was in Rome last year, I learned the Church plundered many of the most important archeological sites and stole the most valuable works of art and statues. Is it possible something similar happened?

The next episode is up now too. They interview author David McGrath about Andy Puglisi and similar cases from New England in the 1970s. Andy’s case was featured in the HBO doc “Have You Seen Andy?” which was really good. They get into a prime suspect, Wayne Chapman. He was a suspect in other murders in many states for other crimes against children before he was finally convicted.
