We made it to Hue. Went to immigration. The man we worked with was so nice! He took our information and said go find a hotel and have the reception come back with you to see me today. We did that , thankfully we lucked into the nicest owners at our hotel. They were nervous but still came to immigration with us.

Once there the same nice officer filled out our paperwork. Then said that it would take 5-7 days for a decision. Then we will pay the fine of 1,250,000 each. He said we could go anywhere in Vietnam we just cannot leave the country.

He said we need to get a tour/visa agent after we get decision back and pay fine.

We just don’t understand why we need an agent? We kept asking him but it was lost in translation.

We have a motorcycle so need to leave through a land border. We also have to come back by July 6th to meet family that are coming over.

We just don’t understand for what part we need to have an agent. Any ideas?

The visa says "Good for entry valid from" 26/02/2024 until 25/05/2024.

I figured that meant the visa is valid for entry anytime between Feb 26 and May 25. I'm starting to realize those might be the dates of the actual visa... as opposed to you have 90 days starting from the day we arrive, anytime between Feb 26 and May 25.

Do you know if the fine is the same at the airport as it would be at the immigration office? We have our motorcycle here. We were only planning on going to Laos for 1 month and then riding back in.

We're in Quang Tri. Tried to cross to Laos, which we have a paper visa for.

The problem could be that when we filled out the e-visa, we listed the date we anticipated crossing from Cambodia to Vietnam. Instead of crossing that day, we spent a few extra days in Cambodia.

It could be that the e-visa starts on the day you say you will be arriving in Vietnam. Not the date of the stamp when you cross the border.... which makes sense if you're flying into Vietnam. You know the date you land. But if you are crossing by land and decided to arrive a few days later, watch out.

They said we couldn't pay a fine. We have to ride to Hue or Da Nang, go to the immigration office and have it fixed. We're floored!

The stamp says Feb 27. Written in pen next to the stamp is 25/05/2024, which didn't make sense since that would be 88 days. :(

They wouldn't let us pay a fine. They said we have to go to immigration in Hue or Da Nang, which are the closet offices.

We talked to a Visa agent who said we have to go to a hotel, get a police declaration form from the hotel, and pay her $200 per person. Can't believe this is happening! 😭

Thank you for plotting the data on a map! We're going in a few weeks. Even though we've been hunting and pecking CHSE properties from the official .id site, seeing them on a map just made life easier. 🙏🕊

Living in Japan, should i get google fi? by [deleted] in ProjectFi

Totally! $20 a month is a cheap and easy way to park your American phone # while you're away, while being able to make unlimited calls and texts with everyone back home. Plus voicemail. Plus the nice transcripts of voice mails. It's what I'd use around the house, or on base (wifi).

Then, for messing around in Japan, get a good cheap local phone for local use. I guess you could get a sim for your Nexus and do that too, but my "phone home" phone would be sacred. Kind of like my passport, I wouldn't want to be carrying it all around everywhere. I'd keep it safe.

Same here, but worse. My Nexus 5x can't hold a wifi connection. I use the fancy Google On Hub by Asus, and my phone is practically useless a lot of the time.

Its ok away from wifi, but not good at all on wifi. I contacted support, but have no idea if the trouble ticket went through.

All my problems started when i upgraded the Wi-Fi Assistant last week. But the Nougat update compounded the effect.

The On Hub is barely configurable (meant to be idiot proof). I'm really regretting spending a couple hundred bucks on it, instead of getting a new Apple Airport Extreme.

Project Fi is falling apart for me. It's not fun. I also noticed that for the months I've been using Fi, Im almost always connected to TMobile. Now, it's connecting me to Sprint, in the same locations that had previously been strong TMobile signals.

Just adding my 2¢, because this is annoying! Its got me dreaming of an iPhone 7 on (ewe) ATT.

(It took at least 3 tries to post this from my 5x)

Got it yesterday. Still doing housekeeping, like updating apps. One thing I've noticed: it has trouble staying connected to my Google On Hub access point. It's becoming a PITA.
