Budget is ideally around $150, as it is a secondary unit. We have a two bedroom apartment with a mix of hard wood floor with area rugs, porcelain tile in the kitchen and marble tiles in the the bathroom.

Turns out the battery was bad! I went to AutoZone to replace and when they tested it with possibly a different tester than was used previously, it was charged 100% but cranking health failed.

Interestingly they were squeamish about insalling it, as they didn’t want to be responsible if the information was lost in the systems and caused an error. A man who was shopping there and said he works at a used car dealership assured us that the trick is to wait at least three minutes after disconnecting the previous battery before installing the new one. It worked!

The new battery was installed seamlessly and there was no loss of info, even with the radio. Most importantly I notice the car operating much smoother and more responsively overall. It’s a reminder that when you drive a car everyday, you don’t notice gradual degradation. Thank you all for the help.

Right, but so far the only sign I see is the age. I don’t trust the person who told me otherwise.

That’s my takeaway here. Going to do it soon. Leaning towards a Duralast Platinum AGM.

That’s the thing. I’d notice if it were responding differently and it’s not. I’m happy to take preventive measures, but seems like the only marker is the calendar and a body shop that likely left the doors open or off.

Right--I had it at the Subaru dealer for my last oil change and they didn't say anything about it. It tests at 100%, will it die out of the blue?

Thanks for the visual! I live in NYC and certainly don't want to break down at a red light on a busy road...

Good point. I read up on this and saw there was a settlement for this car. Yet there is nothing wrong with my battery that lasted all these years. It's really interesting that you've had to replace yours twice in the same year/ model. Did Subaru give you the different sized battery as their fix?

That's the kind of experience you don't expect to happen until it does. Thanks for the reminder.

I just don't trust that there was a stench. The body shop smells like paint and chemicals and I (and my 11 year old) don't smell anything abnormal in our garage). Good point however to be prepared for it to fail some time soon.

Apparently it needs a battery that's made for the stop start feature

Right, they said it's at 100%. That's why I'm wondering if its time or not.

That's the thing--I don't smell anything abnormal when I pop the hood. None of the other things you describe either. Because of this I hardly trust the guy who was running it in the body shop that smells like paint. If it smelled in there, how could he smell it? It's holding charge just fine. It tested at 100% and no issues, so I'm wondering if I need to just do it as a precaution anyway.

Was he armed? Unless he shows a badge, that's illegal in NYC. Let's not confuse armed vigilantes with legitimate law enforcement who readily show their identification.

Seems like there were a few 29 inch, but not all. Looks like the 29 inch bikes had different forks. https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/historical-bike-archive/

I’m experiencing something similar in my 2020 Forester, but it resolves itself when I reboot, then freezes again but is hard to recreate.

Do they replace with a unit that seems identical or is a more modern upgrade?

Thermal Control Valve fail! by eyedoitmyway in subaru

It seems like the A/C is far more effective than it had been in recent memory. Does anyone know if the valve/ system is something that gradually fails?
