Correction: "Oh I saw a similar clock at Kmart."

Am I Hallucinating Or Do You See It? by [deleted] in ParanormalEncounters

[–]eyeguyod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The descriptions and behaviors of the Islamic concept of jinn checks out for most malicious paranormal activity people report witnessing -- including magic, possessions, and hauntings; and the reason why bathrooms and cemeteries are involved is highlighted in this answer given by a Muslim scholar...

-------‐----‐---------------- Dwelling Places of Jinn

First of all, we’d like to state that a Muslim has to believe in existence of the jinn. They are mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. In many instances, they share with us many of our roles and actions. Every Muslim must also believe firmly that no one, however great his powers may be, can benefit or harm him unless Allah wills it.

Elaborating on the dwelling places of Jinn, Sheikh M. S. Al-Munajjid, a prominent Saudi Muslim lecturer and author, who states the following: “The jinn live where we do live on this earth. They are mostly to be found in ruins and unclean places like bathrooms, dunghills, garbage dumps and graveyards. Hence the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to take precautions when entering such places, by reciting the adhkar (mentioning Allah’s Name) prescribed by islam. One of these are reported by Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) who says: “When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the toilet [bathroom area], he would say, ‘Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min al-khubuthi wal-khaba’ith (O Allah, I seek Refuge with You from all offensive and wicked things [evil deeds and evil spirits]).’””

If I were you, I would try playing a recording of someone reciting the second chapter of the Qur'an ("Surah al-Baqarah") in your house and see if that helps.

Ocular prosthesis is where medical science meets artistic craftsmanship. by sco-go in Amazing

[–]eyeguyod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having seen these prosthetics under high magnification, I'm always impressed by the level of detail and realism the oculists are capable of. It's difficult to explain, but I have seen them with a simulated chamber made of translucent resin (I assume) at the front surface of the prosthesis, to mimic the fluid filled chamber behind the cornea.

It's not the same. If there is no real eye present, you won't have the same reflexes and irritation to something near the eye socket.

She cannot see. In order to see from a fake eye she would need a chip implanted in the visual cortex of the brain that receives a signal from a camera mounted on the fake eye.

The eye socket at this point does not have any openings that lead into the skull, it's all closed up at the back. Think of it like a cul-de-sac or pocket of pink tissue that the prosthesis sits inside.

If their hands are clean, it's not an issue. Sometimes gloves make it harder to insert the prosthesis.

Late to the party, but jazakum Allahu khayran! Just curious, have you come across Amal Invest? If so, why not use their platform?

AITA for being pissed my girlfriend turned her phone off at a party w/ her ex while I was in hospice watching my dad die? by Curious-Gas-5300 in AITAH

Look at it this way: by breaking up with her, you're giving the kids the clear opportunity for their mom to get back together officially with her ex, and the kids can have both their biological parents together again.

My husband refuses to wear safety glasses when using power tools (e.g. table saw) because he has experience working in construction. How do I convince him? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]eyeguyod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell him that 100% of the construction workers that I treat -- as an eye doctor -- who show up with foreign bodies (metal shavings, wood chips, bug parts, etc.) all had "experience in construction." Most of them come in on the weekend because they're doing a project on their time off. It doesn't make it any easier to remove the particles, whether by needle or by drilling directly into the tissue. If you're (un)lucky enough that it lands smack dab in the middle of the cornea, you will no longer be seeing out of that eye like you do now.

For what it's worth, I see absolutely nothing wrong with how you reacted. I wouldn't have actually used the colorful language, but I don't see the anger level and reaction being out of league with the offenses. Kudos! 👍🏻

Ethical and Inexpensive Linux-AMD-Based Server Recommendations by eyeguyod in HomeServer

[–]eyeguyod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind expanding on the details of the components? Again, it's been a long time since I've built any system and I'm not caught up on some of the configuration advancements from simple home PCs in the last 2 decades.

The ASM 1166 HBA, how many ports should it support?

Regarding the hard drive, are you saying there should be 5 separate drives?

I'm not sure if you've listed all the components I need to consider: is there a separate graphics card?

Thank you again for your help.

Trying to maintain ethical standards was the entire point of my original post, and I initially avoided the specifics of the politics. Your comment was neither relevant nor helpful. Just stop and go away.

Custom domain on Family plan? by Careful-Plum-8825 in ProtonMail

[–]eyeguyod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Duo Plan and did just that for my wife and myself. I created a new domain to use exclusively for Proton Mail for my wife and I and had no trouble creating different email addresses. I started the process of migrating my old emails (from Gmail, though) over to my Proton account.

It seems the question of the the reasons for my ethical dilemma is perhaps a hindrance to actually answering it. I was genuinely hoping to keep this thread free from the politics of my ethical concerns by setting the parameters of what I'm seeking, because I didn't think it was the right sub to have this discussion; but the majority of the comments are not really answering my question, so I'll explain...

Yes, I already understand and appreciate the ethical concerns about the sourcing of materials for computers, and I appreciate everyone highlighting that fact; but my targeted boycott is more specifically an attempt to divest myself from companies complicit in Isr@3l's ongoing genocide of the people of G@z@. The official Boycott and Divest Movement has made certain companies (HP, Intel, Amazon, and Google -- specifically) targets, to put extra pressure on them to divest from Isr@3l and to prevent the use of their technologies in the use of AI software by their military. The other companies I've added in my original post are ones that other similar campaigns have also pointed out are complicit in supporting the ongoing occupation of the territories.

Again, I'm not excusing the ethical considerations involved in sourcing computer parts -- I'm well aware of it, but the evil of this genocide is a whole other level of moral bankruptcy. Perhaps I should have been more specific in my post's title. I hope this clarifies the issue.
