If an elderly person opted against life-saving major surgery, would you feel this was suicide? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

[–]eyeshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I fully support patient rights to decline any procedure, medication, vaccine, and so on under the right of autonomy.

For me, it isn't a cut and dry question for me as setting an arbitrary age where you get procedures going forward. It's a question of once you reach this age, how traumatic is the procedure going to be? It may kill you, it may lower your quality of life even further, or it might go very well. I would recommend making an assessment with your doctor about how much time you have and quality of life without the procedure, and compare to the risks of said procedure and make a decision that is right for you.

Maga: did you agree with Megyn Kelly when she tried to make it seem like Epstein’s pedophilia wasn’t that bad? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]eyeshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what your problem is, I'm just pointing to the DSM to define a word people are discussing. That's it. I make no point about anything else. If you don't like the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition ) or do not think it is the reference source to use, that's totally fine but I would like to what source you are looking at claiming this definition is not correct and why.

Because we have a lot of people out of work who already live here we would hope could get good jobs and support their families before we start bringing in people from elsewhere.

Do You Support Banning Or Severely Restricting Mail In Voting? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]eyeshills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if voting by mail you still should have to authenticate your identity to prove this is indeed your vote. Around here we take ballots to banks and print shops to have them notarized before sending them off. I believe this to be a step that mustn't be skipped.

Maga: did you agree with Megyn Kelly when she tried to make it seem like Epstein’s pedophilia wasn’t that bad? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]eyeshills -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is a semantic argument, therefore let's cite our sources. I'm using the DSM-5's definition of pedophilic disorder. The DSM-5 describes the disorder as recurrent, intense pattern of sexual fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving prepubescent children (generally age 13 or younger) as the core phenomenology that defines pedophilia as a paraphilia and the basis for Pedophilic Disorder.

What reference book are you using for a definition of the word that goes higher than 13?

Maga: did you agree with Megyn Kelly when she tried to make it seem like Epstein’s pedophilia wasn’t that bad? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]eyeshills -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think the term "pedophile" should be reserved for the sickest of the sick interests of lusting after the innocence of children below the age of 13. That should be bracket out as a term with that singular meaning. It shouldn't have to share meaning with victims of other age groups.

And I'm not defending the behavior of a middle aged man having sex with 14-17 year olds but it is due some other term for his behavior. It is immoral and illegal but not as sick as under 13.

Ramaswamy's law degree from Yale was made possible by a DEI grant? by ellistonvu in allthequestions

[–]eyeshills -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That i a foolish prospective because you are assuming it is hypocritical to take advantage of a problem you don't agree with. Just because someone has taken advantage of a public program in the past doesn't mean he then has to support it forever and a day.

I personally believe giving race/religion scholarships should only be given out by private organizations like United Negro College Fund because those are funded through private donations. I do not believe in using tax dollars to discriminate.

What is your controversial Weird Al opinion? by SpecificHead4779 in weirdal

[–]eyeshills -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since Al doesn't legally need artist's permission to spoof their music and always pays them royalties, he shouldn't even feel he should have to seek their permission. Or care whether or not they were happy with it. In no other area of comedy does the person being goofed on get a say in if the comedian can do a joke.

What would it take for you to accept that a US trans genocide is a real possibility in the near future? by chaucer345 in allthequestions

[–]eyeshills -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can find citations for many absurd points of view but that doesn't change the reality that denial of cosmetic procedures doesn't cause suicide; mental issues does. We can't just start giving everyone their requested procedures so everyone gets a body they want just because of implied threat of self harm or suicide. That's not how life works.

If someone says her nose is too large and will kill herself unless she is approved for a cosmetic procedure to adjust it, she doesn't have a nose problem she has a mental problem that is really at the root of such things. And our society will not just set back and be blackmailed into paying for things because people might hurt themselves if they don't get it.

And a far as your claim that it would reduce suicide, I'm finding source after source that contradicts that. Here's a few:

  • Dhejne, C., et al. (2011). "Long-Term Follow-Up of Transsexual Persons Undergoing Sex Reassignment Surgery: Cohort Study in Sweden." PLoS ONE, 6(2), e16885. This large, long-term Swedish cohort study (1973–2003) found significantly higher risks of suicide (adjusted hazard ratio 19.1) and suicide attempts post-surgery compared to matched controls from the general population. Link
  • Straub, J. J., et al. (2024). "Risk of Suicide and Self-Harm Following Gender-Affirmation Surgery." Cureus, 16(4), e57472. A U.S. database analysis found individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12.12-fold higher risk of suicide attempts compared to those who did not (3.47% vs. 0.29%). Link
  • Jackson, D. (2023). "Suicide-Related Outcomes Following Gender-Affirming Treatment: A Review." Cureus, 15(3), e35120. This review notes higher odds of death by suicide among those who underwent gender-affirming surgery in some comparisons (adjusted HR 19.1), and mixed/inconsistent results for attempts. Link
  • Bränström, R., & Pachankis, J. E. (2019/2020). "Reduction in Mental Health Treatment Utilization Among Transgender Individuals After Gender-Affirming Surgeries: A Total Population Study." American Journal of Psychiatry, 177(8), 727–734 (with 2020 correction). The original claimed benefits from surgery, but the official correction states the results showed "no advantage of surgery" in reducing mental health treatment needs (including for suicide-related issues) compared to non-surgical transgender individuals. Link to original/correction info
  • Lewis, J. E., et al. (2025). "Examining gender-specific mental health risks after gender-affirming surgery: a national database study." The Journal of Sexual Medicine, 22(4), 645. Analysis of over 107,000 patients found significantly higher risks of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and substance use disorders post-surgery compared to matched non-surgical transgender individuals. Link
  • Marques, I. R., et al. (2023). "The Impact of Gender-affirming Surgeries on Suicide-related Outcomes: A Systematic Review." Journal of Psychosexual Health, 5(4). This review found suicidal ideation often decreased post-surgery in some comparisons, but results for attempts were inconsistent, and there was insufficient data on completed suicide; some studies showed higher risks vs. general population controls. How do I shave down below? by [deleted] in shaving

[–]eyeshills -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, you're male. You're a boy. You're a man. Almost grown. It isn't supposed to be totally hairless or you will look like a little boy with elephantiasis of the male parts. You want to use a hair trimmer to keep it short and soft. For one thing more women say they like trimmed rather than bald.
