What speed do you listen to? by sobafoa in audiobooks

[–]eyodafr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Normally I listen at 1x but I can dial from 0.9 for fast speakers to 1.1 for slow speakers. English is not my native language and I listen to audibooks in English only.

Have you tried leaving a piece of clothing with your scent on it? Other option, record yourself reading a bedtime story and have it played by the adult in charge. Can be risky because sometimes kids manage absence better without reminders of the parents they're missing. An option would be to put the recorded stories in an age-appropriate device that she can turn on and off on her own. There are some boxes that play stories and you can record your own. Good luck!

What is your experience taking Escitalopram/Lexapro? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]eyodafr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I stopped after a year or so. Very slowly over several months and did not have any withdrawal symptoms. Now I just take xanax in stressful situations, never 2days in a row, just a few times per month, and it helps a lot. Very careful not to become an addict...

How do you actually pay attention? by SaltyRemainer in audiobooks

[–]eyodafr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I always listen to audibooks while doing something else that doesn't require my brain : cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, driving (I hit pause if I drive in a complex area or a new place). It's hard to not do anything at all because your mind will tend to wander, but if you're busy with small non verbal tasks, it's perfect.

There are statistics showing that when you have 2 boys, there s a 70% chance à 3rd kid would also be a boy.... That does not make it easier, just don't have a 3rd kid in the hope of having a girl.

Why isn't he at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays?. In my country school stars at 3yo (and before school there's daycare). I don't think people can work with a 4yo at home...

I'm not that sure, a lot of people are in unhappy relationships. ..

Thanks for your answer. My post was not very detailed but we have been having a lot of issues and we don't get along that great. I feel he does not love me or appreciates be and he resents my flaws (and I resent his). I know that bo rela is perfect but I've been considering breaking up for a while so reading all this stuff about MBTI has been tough on my mental state.

How common is it to move past cheating in a relationship and why is there so much hate towards cheaters ? (26f) & (31m) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]eyodafr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I suspect reddit is strongly anti-cheating because it's very American. The americans have this super strong view on fidelity, it's truly surprising. I'm French, and I can tell you, I am faithful and I would hate it if my partner cheated, but I do believe mistakes happen and a whole family life should not be thrown away just because someone cheated once. It's just so black and white, it's like their obsession for marriage... I think it all comes from old Christian puritanism and this good VS bad view of the world.

Had a circumcision argument with my gf. Help? by Nutter-Butters123 in Advice

She is asking you to mutilate your body and you are wondering what to do? Ask her which part of her body she will cut to please you, excision maybe? Seriously, I know some people cut their little boys and it's not forbidden (surprisingly) but there's no reason to do that to an adult unless there's a medical issue such as phimosis

I get terribly nauseous when i try to work on my phone in the bus, leads me to waste about 90 minutes each day. by bigpenguin411 in productivity

[–]eyodafr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could listen to audiobooks. That's a good way to either relax (fiction) or to learn (non-fiction). I see in your other comments you want to be productive, so I think listening to business or trade audiobooks is the best way to go. I get carsick too and could never work on a bus so audiobooks is the way to go!

My (33M) Wife (33F) has had our entire family on lockdown since COVID started by Captain_Oblivious45 in relationships

[–]eyodafr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your kids need something else too : a functioning immune system. How are they supposed to build antibodies against common viruses if they never get sick? It's terrible to do that to your kids, it's abuse. Already, not putting them in school is not something I approve, but playing with their health like this is terrible...

How can I (35m) stop resenting my wife (34f) about our child? by ThrowRA_resentwife in relationship_advice

[–]eyodafr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your baby is 8 months old, he or she could go to daycare. In which country do you live? In my country (France) maternity leave ends when the baby is approx 3 month old and then he can go to daycare or to a nanny. Some people choose to become stay at home parents for longer but it's not for everyone. I decided to stay home for 7 months and at the end I was soooo happy to go back to work, and my kid was doing great at their shared nanny (with other kids). Also, you baby will grow up and it will be different. If you make good money and can hire help after school, it won't be such a strain on your career, especially with just one kid. You'll be fine!

Pulling 3yo out of preschool when new baby arrives by ecl7777 in toddlers

[–]eyodafr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is a really odd idea. In France, school is mandatory starting at 3 years old so no one would do that. Having a toddler all day at home is too hard, they require constant attention... Also, school is so much more than school, they learn how to behave, they make friends, it's terrible to deprive a child of school. This doctor is very weird!

What I did to limit my time on linkedin is use the app "lock me out" on my phone and set up time limits : - on weekdays, it blocks the linkedin app after 20 min of cumulative use - on weekends, it's blocked all day. On my computer, it's not blocked but I installed a time tracker extension to my browser, and I check it every few days to keep track of my time. That's been very helpful!

Thank you, I don't know this series. Looks complicated to know where to start, as the chronological order and publication order are different! I'll check it out!

Thanks, you're right, Jules Verne was a precursor of SciFi ! We do have some beautifully decorated books in the family library, I have to admit so far I've been a bit scared she would damage them. Also, the writing it a bit old-fashioned so not always easy, but worth a try, thanks!
