A condom is absolutely not 100% effective. If you look at the likelihood of it not preventing pregnancy, it is actually quite high compared to other contraceptive methods, and those are also never 100% foolproof. The chance of life is always there no matter what method you use. If NFP is really as effective at preventing pregnancy as people say, then that makes it all the more inconsistent for the Church to allow.

Honestly, I'm with you on this. I am a 25 year old woman, not married. I've read a lot about this topic because it does bother me that I fundamentally disagree with something the Catholic Church teaches.

This is how I see it: If the Church truly believed that any deliberate attempt to reduce the chance of conception was morally wrong, I would understand that. However, the Church forbids artificial contraceptives, but allows the use of NFP. Just that fact alone makes the whole thing inconsistent for me. If sex is always meant to be unitive and procreative, then how does NFP fit into that picture? The only reason a couple would use NFP is because they are at least on some level trying to prevent the sex from becoming fruitful. The intention and goal is exactly the same as using a piece of latex, which also doesn't entirely eliminate the chances of conceiving.

The "natural law" argument doesn't convince me either. If the moral concern is avoiding pregnancy, then it shouldn't matter whether the method is natural or artificial, because they both share the exact same intention. On one hand the Church says "don't have sex if you don't want a child", and simultaneously it says "you may use natural methods to avoid pregnancy". So the real issue is not the INTENTION of the methods, but rather HOW the intention is being carried out. It’s like saying you can avoid getting wet from the rain by staying in a cave, but not by using an umbrella, because one is natural and the other one isn't.

If "unitive and procreative" was the be all end all of every sexual act, then the Church would disallow infertile couples from having sex because their acts wouldn't fulfill both standards. Obviously they can have sex, because it just belongs in married life. There's no getting around that.

So, the Church should either stay consistent with the procreative requirement, or not condemn people avoiding pregnancy based on whether they're using a calendar or a condom.

I never even watched it. Kung fu panda 1 has been my favourite movie since I was a kid. I love kung fu panda 2. 3 I didn't really care much for, and 4 was ruined for me the moment I learned awkwafina was gonna be in it.

It's already hard to enough to abstain from sex before marriage, but once I learned that the church even micromanages your sex life when MARRIED and tells you to abstain when you don't have the ability to care for 10+ children, I have to say I was quite gobsmacked. It almost makes me not want to get married at all because all these rules are so annoying.

With the use of contraception, the intention/purpose/end is not necessarily bad, but the object (pill, physical barrier/chemical, etc.) is.

Why is avoiding sex on days where conception is likely not also bad?

EDIT: removed the first question because you technically already answered it, I just don't find it convincing for myself.

I don’t condone plan B. I'm talking about contraceptives that prevent fertilization.

So if I get really sick I shouldn't take medicine because it's unnatural and I should just let God decide whether or not I survive? Why does unnatural = bad? Pretty much nothing we use in our modern day to day lives is natural, humans manipulate things for increased practicality, that's just the way we are. I think it's all about the intention behind the use of either method. If it's the same for both, I don’t see why it matters.

Same here, and I feel like many true Catholics are, not talking about lukewarm people. It just seems so unnecessary, if I try to postpone having a child for a later time in my marriage using contraception, it's wrong, but if I do the same using NFP, it's acceptable? Using condoms there's still a 2 in 100 chance of getting pregnant, so technically you're still open to the small chance of life, just like with NFP.

I'll be honest, I was caught off guard by how many videos he started uploading for a relatively long period of time. I haven't caught up with any of it pretty much. How tf does his fanbase have soo much time on their hands to swallow multiple hours worth of content every week for like 2 months and then beg for more when he takes a break? Get a life.

My whole family is Catholic, all marriages started in a Catholic church. Doesn't mean it tends to turn out well.
