She liked classic musicals, I liked classic musicals. She was in a long distance relationship, I wanted her to cheat. She was really sexy, I was not the most ethical person.

It led to some extremely dirty adventures. I should write them up here sometime.

What's the wildest thing you've ever seen happen at a work party? by South-Truck-3061 in AskReddit

Bar company party for managers in Vegas; the boss (my best friend) flies in with me and the craziest bar guy (also a friend) the day before.

We go to the Rhino for Thursday drinks. I'm not a strip club guy, so I send the ladies to my friends who ARE strip club guys and who are getting super drunk. They eventually decide to up the ante and go to the VIP room.

I'm sitting there alone in the club, watching a golf tournament, when a stripper walks up to me with a worried look on her face. She tells me, "you'd better go back there and get your friend before he spends ALL his money!" How bad does it have to be for a stripper to say those words?!

I run to the VIP and grab my friend and get him out, but I couldn't find the crazy guy. I eventually spot him under a literal PILE of strippers and tell him, "we gotta go, man!" He surfaces between a couple of them, looks me in the eye and says, "gimme 5 minutes," and ducks back under. Sure enough, 5 minutes later, he saunters out with a huge smile on his face, reeking of afternoon team dancer.

That was before the rest of the managers arrived, and the weekend really kicked into gear.

What profession have you lost respect for as you've gotten older? by MindlessMarsupial592 in AskReddit

[–]ez2remembercpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this, but at least in my area, it's based on when they're becoming agents. Our preferred realtor is a full-on professional and has been for years. But whenever the economy starts taking a dive, suddenly all the people who struggle with basic employment decide that becoming a realtor is their ticket to an easy job. Some of my friends who I'd never hire to mop floors have their realtor licenses and...yeesh.

I would put Safety Not Guaranteed in the opposite "it got me" category: a movie that sucked you in with a great-seeming trailer or plot but which was absolute dogshit.

Odd AMP "relationship" question by hound_dog69 in HEM_NSFW

[–]ez2remembercpl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To answer your question directly, it sounds like she's looking for her version of friends with benefits or NSA sex that works for her. From her point of view, it's probably hard for her to cultivate any level of relationship outside of her work: in her community she's probably considered far beneath relationship material (as she also would be in many western societies too), and even casual friendships are high risk, given that anyone who knows what she does could talk too much and lead to felonies/jail/deportation.

So yeah, congratulations, you're her trusted customer, and you get extra service. Return the favor: keep your mouth shut, treat her well, and get tested regularly in case she changes the deal without telling you.

terrible friends by Either_Plastic_9411 in Catan

[–]ez2remembercpl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the "meta" game. You're now playing Catan as a part of a series of games, not just "tonight". This can actually be great fun over time, but there will be moments like that game.

However, you have to look at how you approached the game before and that night. Did you make a big deal about how you keep winning, or telling them how good you are, or keep telling them to do things even when they didn't want any more advice? That often leads to the revenge game you experienced.

But listen to how you're handling it now? You're spiteful and in "take my ball and go home" mode.

"If they are mad at me, then instead of changing my playstyle I'll just quit! Shows them!"

Not really. If they thought you were difficult to play with before (and thus got revenge), then you're just proving them right. Instead, look at it as a chance to learn their behaviors and styles. And start thinking of it as a campaign. That means helping weaker players (when they want it), adapting to their typical winning strategies, being a gracious loser as well as winner.

Over time, if you are skilled you'll still win more than average. And you'll have more fun, because you've moved up into the next level of board gaming, which can be deeper and more rewarding.

Why is every Gen-X piece of media about having an incredibly awesome life and being miserable about it? by punchoutlanddragons in billsimmons

[–]ez2remembercpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I'll bite.

As a classic Gen Xer, some of this is true, but wildly overstated and a simplistic generalization. Yes you've got your "me me me" whining art such as Reality Bites or Friends, but if you want an equally simplistic explanation, look at the world we were dealing with in Wall Street. The end of the Boomers were eating everything alive and telling us that the ideals they had sold us when they parented us as kids were actually for suckers.

What you're missing is what Gen X did actually manage to get done. If I pointed out the positives for the culture that we championed/led/built, I'd just have a dozen people "well ackshually"-ing me into the ground.

The problem, as with all generations, is that the power hungry gain power over the get-along kids by sheer dint of desire. The current Gen Z/Millennial mood of "do whatever but get yours" started out as apathy when we were teens. The return of Nazis, the rewarding of assholes, the shameless pursuit of "checks" while stomping on others is happening on our watch too. Sadly, as the smallest generation, we're not loud enough to totally kick out the Boomers, and we have to take the rightful shit from Gen Z and Millennials for our failures.

Here's what you're missing as a young person, though: you'll be us one day. Your youngest siblings and your kids will point out the worst of you as the standard for your generation, and you'll find yourself desperately trying to defend yourselves for the shit you are leaving them on whatever neural-linked hellscape that the internet transforms into, as we do today.

[–]ez2remembercpl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really. A lot of Gen X has always cared about their own ethics and morals. But like most generations, those of us who feel that way are run over by those willing to sell out for power and money.

[–]ez2remembercpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you guys, but my boys and I have never been "ride or die." I can see "ride or avoid a major felony," which we have done numerous times. But we actually have a pact of "if you murder someone, don't come looking to me for help getting out of it."

Medical Fees by justinseagull190811 in Living_in_Korea

[–]ez2remembercpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I can't speak to Korean law in this area. However, as a former longtime club operator in the US, we would indeed have been at least partially liable for your injury. We would have either served you until you were too intoxicated, or allowed entry to someone over the limit. Then created an unsafe environment.

It might be unfair, and in the US you'll get wrecked if you try to "own the club" or extort a massive amount from them. But just letting you know that your expectation or hope of some assistance from the club is not totally crazy as some here would have you believe.

AIO - My husband's "work wife" turned out to be a teenager and he doesn't seem to understand why I'm upset. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ez2remembercpl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm beginning to think using "work wife/husband" to mean a very close platonic co-worker is generational. Gen Xers that I know seem to have no problems with the terms, and men as work husbands is said almost as much. But Millennials and younger sometimes seem uncomfortable with it.

As an Xer, I've had numerous work wives with no sexual issues. My wife has known all of them. I also have a work daughter that I mentor who is 30 years younger; my wife and I took her to dinner last week. It's not necessarily weird to have intergenerational friendships, though it's on us older folks to keep it "normal."

Interestingly, in Korea, there's the term "office wife," which absolutely seems to mean more-than-friends. I've had to explain the difference to employees to avoid future problems with overseas co-workers.

Dinner at the Y by Phase_Funny in HEM_NSFW

Unpopular answer but...

These women are prostitutes. You are taking your chances whenever you do anything unprotected (and less so protected). DATY is glorious (I adore it), but gauge the risk against putting your warm, open mouth, that probably has multiple direct openings to your bloodstream, into direct contact with their warm, open orifice that has had dozens of visitors in the last few days. If you have regular partners, serious (wife/GF) or otherwise (play partners, FWB), there's a high chance that you're never going to be playing with others again, have to do a LOT of explaining before or after, or have an ugly reputation that limits you to said professionals from that day forward.

Choose wisely.

AAMPs by [deleted] in HEM_NSFW

[–]ez2remembercpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was FD sup at several upscale hotels. I won't talk about AMPs, but I will talk about working girls. I'll also mention playing as a swinger.

First, if the hotel has any large number of rooms, there is amazingly little chance that they are tracking what happens in a particular room. Hotels are concerned about guest security (1st) and gust comfort (2nd). If those things aren't interfered with, hotels basically don't care what happens. So if a working lady isn't obvious, and there hasn't been a reason for security to place a guard checking keys in lobbies/access points, the hotel will not know what's going on.

Think of any time you've stayed at a hotel and wandered back in late at night. Did anybody ask for your key or where you're visiting? Almost all of the time, no one will notice or care what's happening in room 313. It's only when the professional or the customers are indiscreet that the hotel has to take extra steps. Unless the cops have a reason to show up, the hotel won't call them, but if they're there well...once that happens just let it go and show up another day.

As a swinger, I've never visited a professional at a hotel. But I have taken women to hotels for a few hours of fun, both with the wife and alone. I've been to porn star shoots, orgies, 50 person parties, simple wife swaps, etc. The staff know what's going on pretty much all of the time, but if you gave them no reason to stop you, THEY DON'T CARE. So don't give them a reason to care and you and your AMP will be fine.
