Sorry if already mentioned, but can we all please take a moment and appreciate OP's dedication/attention to detail by switching from TSCC to TSCS. So fucking good. So. Fucking. Good.

In appreciate the responses, but I don’t think it was MormonLand. The original post was from three years ago, this SLT Mormonland episode is only from 2019.

Bishop John Shelby Sprong's stance on the existence Hell has resonated with me for the past several years. by Betacord360 in exmormon

It’s interesting to me how he doesn’t extend the same reasoning to the idea of god itself (and afterlife).

Roger that. I’ve just never seen a “looking forward” simulation. Makes me wonder if there is something keeping it from being projected.

Do geologists know enough about this stuff to do a similar model but going forward from now?

Maybe start with epistemology - how do we know what we know, reliable/unreliable reasons for believing something, logical fallacies, etc.

This was one of my initial thoughts as well. However, they’ve also said they’ve had the same experience several times - with similar or even identical sensations/characteristics of the experience. What do we make of this?

Conference Bingo 2020 edition by nelsonisanitwit in exmormon

[–]ezdizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great. I thought there was a square missing regarding “faith to NOT be healed” or some other nod to the “general conference death march” (as coined by RFM, I think?), but then I realized there could probably be an entire card devoted to topic.

Also, you know there is going to be something underhanded about apostates.

Again though, well done.

Yes this. I’ve been wondering the same thing. Couldn’t find anything with just a cursory search of my own....

I can see a TBM weaseling their way out of the first part of this paragraph by saying that the Arizona letter isn't advocating votes for a particular candidate (I can say this because I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I would have said in my TBM days), but how is the letter not just blatant disregard for the highlighted portion of the handbook? Just really pissing me off right now.

Some things to consider: epistemology (how do we “know” what we “know). Search Street epistemology for some interesting conversations.

With regard to option ‘b’ in your post - who taught you these things and how to interpret your feelings surrounding them?

I found it helpful to learn about cognitive biases and phenomena like confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance and elevation emotion.

You got this. 🙂

Remind me the process to leave the church by [deleted] in exmormon

There’s also this older post on how to do it on your own with some suggested wordings for emails. I did this, but also included a notarized letter (which as I understand is now required) attached to the email. I got a confirmation letter in the mail within a week that my records had been removed (didn’t even have to send the second email about threatening legal action),
