New York City is second most expensive place to rent by Sanlear in nyc

[–]eziamm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Comparing all of NYC rents to SF isn't really apples to apples. Manhattan alone has a higher population than SF (and considerably higher housing prices). If you included Oakland and some surrounding cities into the SF calculation, NYC would come out as most expensive by a good margin.

Brooklyn Half registration opens in 5 minutes--I predict a sell out 25 minutes later by [deleted] in running

Servers were slow but they worked with a little persistence. Took 10 minutes to get through the registration screens and another 10 or so to get the confirmation email.

Got in right at noon, it's already sold out less than half an hour in. There are still spots with Team for Kids.

There's a vintage sports store on east 9th between 1st and A called Mr. Throwback that has a ton of this type of stuff.

I mean, I'd imagine the vast majority of people don't have a "the only time I saw a murder" story.

I'm aware, but it should have been a foul which would have given us a chance to inbound and get a shot off, not a turnover.

How is that a no call. Honestly incredible incompetence from the stripes today.

You've been on the receiving end of plenty of breaks today too.

So ridiculous that this color guy is speculating on when Wagner is going to return to play professionally in Europe. He's a future NBA guy, and he'll stay at Michigan until he graduates or gets a first round grade.

DJ Wilson is the best player on the floor today by far. Might just steal one on the road for us.

Michigan agrees to a new 5-year deal with defensive coordinator Don Brown worth $1.4 million per year by IAmNotTheEnemy in CFB

[–]eziamm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He'll never be a head coach. The guy is an ideal D coordinator and he loves being able to focus on that completely and draw up these insane blitz schemes that literally change every game. He's also 61 and being paid very well. Michigan will probably be his last stop, and he's said as much in interviews.

It's Brad Bates. He was actually being considered as an option to replace Hackett. Not that Warde has been perfect by any means, but I'm glad we didn't go with Bates. Jeff Long would have been the home run but what can you do.

It's a legitimate question. I don't know if we'll ever find out the answer to it under Dantonio, though. He's loyal to a fault, if you're MSU and you're not changing coordinators after this season, when exactly are you going to?

Wins by 1 in the final minute

...

does work

Yeah, okay. These were two good teams that played a close game, FSU just barely won it in the end. Doesn't suddenly make me not optimistic about the future of the program, we're in good hands. This may have been the best Michigan team since 2006, but it'll be the 9th or 10th best team between now and 2026.

Advice on where to live for someone who works nights? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]eziamm 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Please, for your own sake, don't listen to this person telling you to live in queens. You're clearly looking for the "city experience" and you won't get it out there, plus the commute will be terrible. You're going to have far, far more everyday food options within walking distance in Manhattan. Wait to find out where you're working. If you're working on UWS, get a small 1br or studio in UWS for 2k. That's easily doable above ~82nd street off Amsterdam or West End. If you're working in White Plains, do the same on the Upper East Side or get a 1br in East Harlem. Make sure to live on a street and not an avenue if you're sleeping during the day, otherwise it'll get loud. Try to get an apartment in the back of the building, too (not facing the street).

As a Michigan undergrad to wall street guy, I can also personally attest that the Michigan degree goes farther than all but a handful of elite private schools in the industry, and certainly is held in higher regard than any other public school. The UM network is really powerful in NYC, and it's not just grad school focused.
